How can the world reduce the macroeconomic impact of HIV/AIDS pandemic

How can the world reduce the macroeconomic impact of HIV/AIDS pandemic?
The problem of HIV/AIDS of the poorest countries of the world, most essentially Africa, being the region that has the largest population infested, has continued to attract attention of development agencies that fear that the pandemic may continue to worsen poverty level and economic decline in which Africa is entrapped. Giving these predicaments, who must be alive to their duties to put a check on the "immoral" conduct that has plagued our society.

Tough question. I think that education is playing a key role right now in Africa, but it's a slow process. Many men still do not use STD/HIV protection such as condoms etc out of choice. Also many women get raped on a daily basis and are helpless to protect themselves from contracting the virus. In terms of economics, that is also a tough question as the continent goes deeper into poverty and countries such as China, who were once on the same economic level as Africa, become an economic super power. If there is no economic interest in African countries with no oil, diamonds or other resources, the major super powers turn their blind eye on these countries. The world super powers should spend less on military and devote more to raising the bare essentials for African countries such as basic healthcare and further education. I'm actually working on a video game that focuses on the HIV/Aids pandemic and brings people from 1st world countries to donate money while playing the game.
2 :
You are misusing the word 'macroeconomic'. Macroeconomic refers to the performance of an economy as a whole, rather than within specific sectors. Secondly Asia is currently at greater risk of AIDS/HIV than Africa, largely due to less public and government attention there. Otherwise you are spot on about its effect on poverty levels

What are the chances of spreading HIV/AIDS through blood contact

What are the chances of spreading HIV/AIDS through blood contact?
I've always sort of wondered what the actual chances are of spreading HIV through blood. Like say there's a person without HIV with just a small cut is in an area where there have been many people with HIV or AIDS very frequently passing through. And say those people with HIV and AIDS could have also gotten a cut or something like that. What are the actual chances of HIV passing to the other person?

1 :
HIV can survive a while on the outside..so the chances are pretty high. Best option is not to touch blood at all.
2 :
Usually belong to blood-borne AIDS, sexually transmitted, especially male homosexuality. With the use of needles is very easily transmitted.
3 :
Its very easy to spread through blood contact
4 :
I can not say actual percentages but there is always a risk. That is why any blood or other bodily fluid should always be cleaned by using gloves and disinfectant. It is also important why you should wash your hands properly before eating, after toilet etc. AIDS and HIV can not live outside of the body for any long period of time, so if someone had HIV and left blood on a shopping cart the changes of another getting hiv or aids from it are small. Obviously people need to take some precautions, and if you are in a public place and see blood or fluid then advise the management or clean it using disinfectant. Aids can not be transferred kissing unless a very large amount of fluid is transferred. Nor can it be transferred with handshakes. Obviously if someone has sores that are open weeping or bleeding the you should not shake hands with them.
5 :
If it's a casual contact that someone with HIV touched something and someone else touched it the chances are very low. HIV is very weak and dies outside the body. The major ways people become infected is unprotected sex, both men and women are at high risk, and sharing needles with IV drugs.
6 :
theoratical risk,...in the real world, HIV is not spread like that...these has never been any case of transmission in the methods u describe....use condoms and dont do drugs or share needles and u will be just fine

What would you do if your mate knowingly infected you with HIV/AIDS

What would you do if your mate knowingly infected you with HIV/AIDS?
I just read this article about this situation and the man only got 8 yrs for his crime. And they didn't say anything about the victim feeling any justice. I myself would not be satisfied with 8yrs. I might seriously murder someone if they knowingly infected me with HIV/AIDS. That's a death sentence for them sooner that what AIDS gave them. The world is really screwed when you have people infecting you on purpose because they was irresponsible with sex. Life is Crazy!

Uh... dont have pre-marital sex... Uh... wear protection... I think this person should have a smaller sentence. Clearly both people are immoral in my perspective.
2 :
i would kill them. that's unforgiveable.
3 :
"File charges at the nearest County Court Clerk." "That's it. Sex Life is over."
4 :
If they did so knowingly, then you should not be with them any longer. The most likely person to give you HIV is someone who does not know they have it in the first place. This is why you should err on the side of assuming that everyone you have sex with may have HIV and you should be protected. I understand the feeling of outrage and I have no sympathy for someone who is prepared to be reckless with another person's health. However, as a matter of public policy criminalising the transmission of HIV is not a good idea. There are public health consequences. In the developed world the worst symptom of the disease is the stigma that is attached to it and in all places stigma makes it spread. Stigmatising those who have the disease is dangerous. People become reluctant to get tested. In fact if they are positive, they can have a near normal life provided they get treatment quickly and adhere to it. The best way to fight the pandemic is to take precautions, which means safe sex only. Encourage people to get tested and make sure that hiv positive people are treated. Very few people can say that they have never done something that could have lead to them getting HIV. Empathy and sympathy is more effective than revenge. Stay safe.
5 :
Um "murder them"? Theyre already going to suffer a horrible death in 10 yrs anyway. 20yrs tops.
6 :
First off having medical coverage is not going to insure the fact that you'll stay alive depending on what stage its at taking medicine might not even help... but I can honestly say that i really don't know how i would react or feel for that matter. I would be hurt but i don't know if i could solely blame someone else for the mistake that we made together. I mean no one would honestly be able to say that they didn't give their partner the advantage of infecting them...

If you work in a hospital is there an exception stating if you have HIV/AIDS it must be disclosed

If you work in a hospital is there an exception stating if you have HIV/AIDS it must be disclosed?
If you work in a hospital is there an exception stating if you have HIV/AIDS it must be disclosed? As I understand this does not have to be disclosed by the carrier in the workplace, are there any exceptions to this rule? For instance would a doctor or a nurse need to disclose this condition if they had it, or would they fall under the umbrella of non-disclosure like other jobs?

they can test you for drugs, they might also see if you have other problems
2 :
In general, the medical professionals (those who interact with patients) in a hospital must disclose any potential hazards to the hospitals risk management team, which may set restrictions on procedures or additional precautionary measures. Patients may not necessarily be notified unless the situation creates a significant risk factor over normal operations.

Is there any conclusive study to prove that sex education of school kids reudces the incidence of HIV-AIDS

Is there any conclusive study to prove that sex education of school kids reudces the incidence of HIV-AIDS?
There is too much hype abaout the desirability of having sex education in school kids to protect them from HIV-AIDS. However, I have not found a single study on the internet that actually proves that sex education amongst school kids actually reduces the incidence of HIV -AIDS. Results of a few studies only are in the nature of baseles conclusions and conjectures. Can anyone give me referencs of studies that PROVE any causal relationship between sex education in children and the incidence of HIV-AIDS?

im not going to look for a study, youd be hard pressed to argue that increasing awareness of a preventable disease will not reduce transmission. think of some diseases they dont talk about in school. if you arent in the healthcare field, how much do you know about them and what needs to be done to prevent them? do you know as much about hiv as you do hepatitis A? how about type 2 diabetes which is an 80-90% preventable disease, that affects something like 5-10% of american adults nowadays? transmission has slowed quite a bit in the US due to increased awareness (whtehr that be from school or other educational exposure) while it is the same or increasing in places like africa where people dont know anything about it

Indeed. Although sex education has helped, it is pitiful compared to what is being done in Europe. In Lousiana, I had sex ed during the "pilot" year of the sex ed program (I believe it was 1990). It was pitiful. We could NOT mention birth control methods or "abortion" *gasp*!!! Really, what good is sex ed if you can't talk about that? I then had sex ed in Belgium in a Catholic school run by priests. These priests pulled out all the stops and told these kids what "sex" was. I still have this image in my head of the priest unwrapping a condom, and fitting it onto the anatomically correct model of a man's erect penis for us all to see. Talk about culture shock. However, it was what the government had specified in the education guidelines for us, and that is what the priests taught us!

Most of the studies won't single out one disease - like HIV which is fairly rare in the US and among the teen population. There are studies though that find that safe sex practices (ie. condoms) reduce the spread of HIV worldwide. Actually there are studies that prove the opposite is true. -- Lack of comprehensive sex ed increases the rates of STDs in teenagers. A big study just came out that looked at the last few years of sex ed in the US - a sex ed that primarily stresses abstinance and at the rates of beginning of sexual intercourse (age) and the std rates. The study found that the abstinence only education had NO effect on either of these. We know that comprehensive sex ed reduces STD rates, so if you don't have comprehensive sex ed, the rates tend to go up. One recent study found in the US that 1 in 4 girls have or have had some type of STD - this is in a country that stresses abstinence only education. If teens are not learning how to protect themselves from disease, then they are not going to be able to protect themselves. The CDC has a lot of information about safe sex and statistics - I highly recommend that you search through their website. In addition, I use a library database (maybe with help from the librarian) that can search through medical journal articles for information - try searching for STD education in western europe -they provide a lot of sex ed and have fairly low STD rates

What are other countries and areas hearing and doing about the HIV/AIDS pandemic

What are other countries and areas hearing and doing about the HIV/AIDS pandemic?
I'm busy writing an essay to apply to a trip to Southern Africa. It's on the HIV/AIDS pandemic and I'd really love to get some real news feed on it. I'd love it if people, could just let me know what their countries or areas are hearing and doing about the pandemic. Links to sights, book requests, magizines to check out, or just someone to chat with about it would be most appreciated. Please let me know what country you're from.

I'm from America where even high school students do their part in helping the AIDS/HIV pandemic yet it seems to just get worser and worser from concerts to campaigns like the red campaign buying anything from selected major retailers and all the proceeds go to the cause and yet nothing seems to help. =(

what laws does oregon have for partner notification that has HIV, AIDS, Or other sexually transmitted diseases

what laws does oregon have for partner notification that has HIV, AIDS, Or other sexually transmitted diseases?
Is it against the law to not notify your partner that you are HIV positive? Are there laws for notifying your partner that you have HIV, AIDS, or other sexually transmitted diseases?

I don't know about Oregon specifically, but I would imagine that it is the same as most other places in North America. HIV is a reportable disease, meaning that they take statistics of new infections for public health records. If you test positive for HIV, a public health nurse will ask you for your sexual history. If you are comfortable notifying your partner or past partners about your HIV+ status, then they will let you do this. If you are not, then the nurse will have them contacted by the public health agency and the person will be told in a very general way that someone they have had sexual contact with has tested positive for HIV and that they are encouraged to get a test. If you are living with HIV, it is required that you both inform your sexual partner of this prior to having sex - and that you practice safe sex (use condoms).

Does anyone have any info on how to start an HIV/ AIDS promotion in my community

Does anyone have any info on how to start an HIV/ AIDS promotion in my community?
I live in Mobile, AL where the HIV/AIDS rate is rising dramatically. The population is not huge compared to alot of other cities in the U.S. but the rate for this disease is very high for the population. I want to know if anyone personally has any contacts for who I can call to have a awareness program here very soon to encourage young people to go and get tested. They are the ones that seem to have the most problems with getting STD testing. Thanks for all that seriously apply.

Hi! God Bless you for caring. Start with your local public health department and ask to talk to the nearest HIV/Aids health nurse. Call a local physcian's office and ask for a referral to the nearest clinic and find out how you could volunteer. You could even consider nursing school and become a HIV nurse specialist.
3 :
go to the health department they have free condoms and pass them out to people .
