Can HIV AIDS show symptoms after 15 years of infection

Can HIV AIDS show symptoms after 15 years of infection?
Is it possible (in some cases) for HIV AIDS to show symptoms after 15 years of infection? I heard this from a friend but I think it is a lie. I believe it will be 6 months not 15 years. Who agrees?

HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, can indeed lie dormant in a person's body for many years without any signs or symptoms. There are many other STDs that lie can lie dormant in the body as well. Sometimes women in their 80s, who haven't been sexually active in decades because of the death of their husband, have problems and go to the doctor and find they have an STD. Which obviously means their husband was cheating and left the proof behind. Anyway, the point is that there is no such thing as safe sex. There is safer sex, and there are no guarantees. Why anyone on this earth would choose anything other than a lifetime of monogamy is beyond me. The world is too dangerous, and life is far too precious.

Everyone is different, our body works differently. But according to the CDC, I think what they say that the longest is 6months. if a person were to take a test at the end of 6 months and the result comes to HIV negative, therefore he or she is considered to be safe.To be sure, one should take the HIV test after 1yr to make sure its negative... But after 6 month, that person is fine... Also, If someone were to have HIV for 15yrs, I think you would see that their very ill and need medical attention.

I would have to say YES IT CAN , read on about my friend. I know that this is long but it may answer some questions you have. And who knows it just may keep some one from having unprotected sex, I really hope so. I don't want you to end up like my friend, I feel so bad for him and there is nothing I can do for him. I have a friend who has aids he didn't show any symptoms for many years, about 10 to be exact. After about the 10 year mark he started showing symptoms, getting sick a lot. Some one asked him if he'd had him self tested for HIV/AIDS and he stated no, the person told him "you need to have your self tested"! Long story short he was tested and he in fact tested positive for HIV. It was only a couple of years later that he tested positive for AIDS. He has now been positive for about 16 or so years. He struggles with it every day. My friend is a straight man, he dated a woman for a while that seemed pretty nice. The problem was that she had dated a man before that had been an IV Drug user, she never told my friend about this man's IV Drug use. So that was how my friend contracted HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS are no joke, it's alive and well and the gifts keep on being given to others. I have seen many people with aids and it is a terrible thing for any one to have go go through, I saw a lot locked up in prison. All the pills that they take every day, just to be able to keep them self alive. Any where from 75 to 100 pills a day, not a joke at all. People need to protect them selves from this and the many other diseases that are out there. Once you have the disease it's over, you have it and there is no going back to where you were before. My friend has gone through so much, it's been so hard on him having to deal with this, the mental pain and all the symptoms are so difficult. Getting HIV/AIDS will change a persons life forever. People must protect them selves, don't expect some one else to tell you the truth of weather or not they have this disease or not. People must take action and protect them self. Use a condom, or don't have sex with any one. Keep your self safe and alive and free from std's that are out there. If the person that you are with won't use a condom then don't let them go there, it is after all your life that you are protecting. There are people out there that feel like some one gave it to me so why should I have to tell them that I have it, let them get it!!! They don't care, some times they want to let others get it too because they are angry and hurt, they want others to feel the same way. There isn't a day that goes by that my friend doesn't wish that he could turn back the hands of time and change what happened to him. But it is too late and there is nothing that he can do except take the medications that have been perscribed to him. He takes about 75 or more pills a day so that he can keep him self alive. Some of these medications must be taken on an empty stomach and some with food, every one of them is different. Just taking medications is a balancing act, when to take them, how to take them. Some must be taken at certain times of the day. Think about taking 75 or more pills a day. And remember that each medication can have side effects that go with them, that alone is hard on your body. Keep your self safe, there is only one you. If you have had unprotected sex get tested. If you haven't had unprotected sex continue to keep your self safe. Never let any one tell you that you can not get HIV/AIDS from unprotected sex, Because you can and will. Use a condom if your going to have sex. Good luck to all!! Stay safe.

HIV does NOT lay dormant, if you are tested regular and u have it you will test and have not put yourself at risk then 10 or 30 years it will not just pop up. HIV shows up in 25 days to 3 months. I just love all the inaccurate information that people give in here. This is why the HIV epidemic continues to go on because of all the miss information. for more information on HIV visit. www.cdc.gov

What will the long term effect of HIV/AIDS in southern Africa be on population growth in that region

What will the long term effect of HIV/AIDS in southern Africa be on population growth in that region?
Given that the rate of infection is approximately 40% and that governments have begun rolling out ARV treatment programmes in that region which includes South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana and Namibia? A slow down in population growth or an overall decline over the next 30 years?

Well we cant know for sure, but I'm going to say steadily slow down. Not everyone there has aids, and people will still have children.
2 :
Nature has always worked on 'survival of the fittest'. And with all the humanitarian work going on, humans are trying to save the 'unfit'. I am sure that is why AIDS has come about. To bring back the balance to nature. Intelligent and cautious people tend to not become victims of AIDS as they are educated and not foolish and value their lives enough. Yes, money does also play a part. But you got all that money by being the 'strongest', therefore you are entitled to survive. Hopefully there wont be a cure and enough of the 'bad apples' will die to leave the earth 'cleaner' and free from the 'unfit'. I know it seems animalistic, but that is what we are, afterall, animals. But even animals have better sense than most humans do.
3 :
Massive population meltdown. viva Aids viva
4 :
Is that not good news for us.....Bull.
5 :
There will be a generation gap. There will be a lot of childrens and allot of old people but the middle age people would have died of AIDS, so this will leave the a burden on the country because there will be no one to look after the children and old people.

Bushmen screwing monkeys in the jungle. As for what country, or what species, i'm uncertain.
2 :
The best evidence we have so far suggests that HIV evolved from SIV, a similar virus that infects chimps. The likely geographic location of the chimp to human jump is Kinshasa. Wild gorilllas in Southeast Cameroon seem to have the virus that's most like HIV. The means of exposure is unknown. It may have been humans having sex with chimpanzees. It may have been someone who cut themselves with a knife while butchering them. We do not know precisely.

if it was then it hasnt worked. no i dont believe this
2 :
I think it was created as you say..but it was spread by ignorance and lack of funding for many many years during the Regan administration, it was believed to be a disease of gays only.. it took about 17 years to learn it was blood born and transmittable thru blood sources.. and more.. sexually..
3 :
No I don't. I don't believe it was created. It is a virus and it evolved into what it is. It hasn't done much to eliminate any sexual activity - nothing ever seems to.
4 :
No.
5 :
No.
6 :
I don't think someone invented HIV to eliminate people who are into immoral sexual acts. Provided that Edward Hooper's hypothesis is true, AIDS virus was invented by scientists unintentionally. Also, IMO, it's quite ridiculous to believe someone would just say "Hey, let's make certain virus in the lab then inject the monkeys of Africa so the natives will get infected eating monkey meat. In that way, people from other nations who tries to F all the natives will get infected then get back to their own country and spread more virus that will slay all their people."
7 :
NO! It's preposterous to even think that. Not even the military of the free world would ever intentionally create such a killer disease.
8 :
YES,THE NORTH KOREAN DEVELOPED THIS DISEASE.
9 :
No I do not. However you should check out what some scientist were doing in Africa just before everything started. I will not say any more on this.

Are there any laws or policies that have been created to slow the spread of HIV/AIDS

Are there any laws or policies that have been created to slow the spread of HIV/AIDS?

you can't stop people from having sex.
2 :
Prostitution is illegal..
3 :
Most legislation pushed through the Senate has been to increase funding to aid organizations or to send tons of shipments of medication. whether these go far to actually solve the problems or reach those in need has yet to be determined.
4 :
if you knowingly spread AIDS you can be prosecuted by law for reckless endangerment, it becomes reckless homicide if they die. I think it varies by state though.
5 :
I don't know what you mean there. Some people are born with HIV, how can there be laws that slow that down? But what I do know is that people do a lot of things to help slow it. for one exampls, dentists use brand new tools every time, they don't sterilize things.
6 :
There is legislation to protect the public from malicious infection. Thus if an HIV infected individual knowingly has unprotected sex with people, they can be held accountable and go to prison.
7 :
there is no protection from it except safe sex and getting yourself checked out regulary, however if you give some one AIDS,HIV it can be deemed as manslaughter and there have been such cases i personally feel it should be murder if they know they have it and spread it but at the same time its the other persons fault for not using protection i still feel a manslaughter charge is too week
8 :
There is a law that deals with confidentiality of results and the fact that HIV testing requires written consent, but I don't know the name of the Act. Also, in many states, it is illegal to have unprotected sex with someone if you are HIV+ and did not tell the person about your infection prior to having sex with them. In PA, people are required to sign a consent form before being tested for HIV, and results can't be released to anyone without the person's written permission, even if the person is as young as age 14. Also, I am required to give results in person. I am not allowed to give results over the phone or by mail, because the person calling may not be who they say they are, and someone else could wind up opening the person's mail by mistake. These rules are to protect the confidentiality of the person being tested.

How much does it cost to get tested for std's or hiv/aids

How much does it cost to get tested for std's or hiv/aids?
How much does the blood test to get tested for all stds and hiv cost? or does insurance cover it?

1 :
Plenty of places like county health departments or planned parenthood provide some testing for free. Yes, insurance will usually cover part, if not all of it. Decide where you want to be tested, then call and ask them.
2 :
Insurance covers it. Just go to your doc and tell them what you want done and all you pay is your usual copay of like 15 or 20 bux. I just had it done.
3 :
Dear concerned: HIVtest.org offers free screening for stds in the us. It is confidential. It includes hiv testing. You should know that the standard STD testing does not include herpes testing or hepatitis testing. You must go to a doctor for that kind of testing and you may have to pay depending on your insurance. You should actually bring your partners to get tested before you engage in any kind of sex. The last thing you want is get infected by something you don't want. Best wishes
4 :
Some insurances do cover the testing, but some places do the testing for free or very low cost, based on the person's income. Check the website hivtest.org to find free testing sites in your area. Just enter your ZIP code. Although testing for some STDs can be done through blood testing, testing for some STDs requires genital swabs.
5 :
You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here - healthquotes.awardspace.info

I recently had unprotected sex with my partner. We had vaginal and anal sex. Both of us had been tested and are clean of any STD's or AIDS/HIV. But recently my right testicle is warm not sore. I haven't had any white discharge from my penis, but I wanted to make sure that I didn't have Chlamydia. Can anyone help?

What is the probability of contracting HIV/AIDS from needle sharing while using drugs

What is the probability of contracting HIV/AIDS from needle sharing while using drugs?
Working on a project. Need help, Any suggestions please. I've been searching all over the web but have had difficulty finding this statistic.
STDs - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I do not know the statistical numbers but I know your chances are very high of getting aids from needle sharing. Also very high for contracting Hepatitis C which leads to cirrhosis & death.
2 :
I don't think that there is an exact statistic..The problem is that when people share needles, they have no idea whether the other person is HIV+. If the one who is sharing his needle is HIV+, then the chances of contracted HIV/AIDS is most favorable. Infected blood is being shot through his veins. There should be some sites out there who have more precise info: http://www.sfaf.org/ http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1403720 http://en.allexperts.com/q/AIDS-339/happen.htm If you can take a ride over to your local Health Department, they can give you the statistics for the particularly area that you live in.
3 :
The probability is very high if the partner you are sharing with is HIV+. If the HIV+ person uses first and than the negative partner is second, you will be not only getting the drugs, but any blood that is in the needle as well. If the first partner is negative and the second person is negative as well there is still a risk for HEP C. This would be considered a blood to blood contact, the highest risk for HIV.
4 :
From sharing one needle you probably won't get it, but the chance is still significant. If sharing needles is a common practice then I can almost guarantee you'd get HIV/hep C. Most injection drug users don't have those though because most don't share needles.
5 :
The probability is very high. This is why many states have begun the needle-exchange program. While they are not advocating drug abuse, this has become a means to combat HIV. A person takes their old needles in and gets new ones--no questions asked. Sharing needles is one of the main ways to contract HIV. You might want to try going to your local Health Dept and get statistics.
