Viruses are not alive. They are nucleic acid, RNA or DNA, with a protein coat with the ability to infect cells and replicate. A virus possess no metabolism and has no function on its own so it can not "die". If your question was "how long will a [virus in question] remain intact and infectious in [insert scenario]? The answer anyone could give would be highly speculative. In the case of HIV, no one knows as it is impossible to detect actual virus even in a living person. It is postulated that HIV can not live outside the body for more than a a few seconds to maybe minutes nor will it still be infectious in dried fluids. If a corpse is still "wet" there are pathogens that could still be infectious during necropsy and embalming however. Embalming fluids are generally germicides and will inactivate viruses as well. However, using fixatives (like formaldehyde) may actually preserve intact viral particles. In the practice of modern embalming, the embalming fluid is pumped in the carotid artery while blood is drained from the jugular vein. Although blood may pose a pathogenic hazard during this stage of embalming, it is impossible to adequately answer either of your questions about HIVs postmortem infectivity with any certainty. Supposedly scientists can show a reactive ELISA from a corpse up to 16 days postmortem but occupational exposure to HIV is extremely extremely rare in such a scenario.

As a funeral director / embalmer, I have studied this well. Here is what I have come up with: Studies have shown that HIV is inactivated rapidly after being exposed to commonly used chemical germicides at concentrations that are much lower than used in practice. Embalming fluids are similar to the types of chemical germicides that have been tested and found to completely inactivate HIV. No one knows exactly how long HIV will remain viable in the blood and tissues after an HIV-infected person dies. To find this answer, the exact time of death would have to be noted and then timed sampling of the deceased's blood would have to be performed. In addition, amounts of virus circulating in the blood vary. All blood, even that in corpses, should be considered potentially infectious; and all workers involved with preparation of the body (e.g., morticians, embalmers) should use universal precautions.

Can someone point me to a good article in regards to homosexuality and HIV/AIDS and staying in the closet

Can someone point me to a good article in regards to homosexuality and HIV/AIDS and staying in the closet?
I know that homosexuals in the US are 50 times more likely to contract HIV than others in this country but I would like to see a good, simple article that points that out also possible ties in the fact that those who are closeted and having random sex are putting us homosexuals at risk.

They take around 7 pills a day.
2 :
There is no set amount. It is determined by your Dr. depending on where your immune system is at. Some people don't take any at all, I have several friends who fall in this category. It means their immune system is very healthy. There is a new drug out called Atripla that is one pill taken once a day....I myself take 5 pills a day. So it will vary from person to person. I have been infected since 1985, so I have had this a long time but am doing very we and look like everybody else.

Does anyone know how many people in Africa are infected with the HIV/AIDS Virus

South Africa is currently experiencing one of the most severe AIDS epidemics in the world. By the end of 2005, there were five and a half million people living with HIV in South Africa, and almost 1,000 AIDS deaths occurring every day.1 how terrible is that...but you can help just visit http://www.avert.org/help-avert.htm
2 :
According to the World Health Organization 34.3 million people in the world have the AIDS virus 24.5 million of them in sub-Saharan Africa. Nearly 19 million have died from AIDS, 3.8 million of them children under the age 15. 5.4 million new AIDS cases in 1999, 4 million of them in Africa. 2.8 million died of AIDS IN 1999, 2.4 million of them in Africa. 13.2 million children orphaned by AIDS, 12.1 million of them in sub-Saharan Africa. Reduced life expectancy in sub-Saharan Africa from 59yrs to 45yrs between 2005 and 2010, and in Zimbabwe from 61yrs to 33yrs. More than 500,000 babies infected in 1999 by their mothers most of them in sub-Saharan Africa. I think it's gonna hard to eliminate HIV / AIDS in such country like Africa where education is not one of their priority. Even in higher educate country like US, HIV / AIDS can't be eliminate that simple. If we suggest an African to use condom, they'll threw it right away, except if we can pursue their chief.

Why would so many people of the world with HIV / AIDS want to come America anyway

Why would so many people of the world with HIV / AIDS want to come America anyway?
Considering our healthcare system is so bad. Can what the liberals say about our healtcare be true? It seems to be the opposite. We have the best of everything in the world. That is why so many billion people would love to come here.

what makes you think they do? just because obama lifted the ban doesn't mean that they are beating the doors down.
2 :
I don't think it's the very best. I think there are many loopholes that allow them to have access to it. Access that those people probably don't have in places like Africa. Besides, bush started the process to lift the ban, it was already in the works by the time Obama came.
3 :
Because most people with AIDS outside of the Western World live in Africa and other places, and could have access to better healthcare, while not perfect is it better than anything you could get in a developing area.
4 :
FcUK all the WHiTEY SCUM sucking Bi T CHes. Including the YAT babosos.

Food. Shelter. Neighbors from around the world. Mountains.
6 :
The figures you see about the U.S. being behind some of the socialized medicine countries has little to do with the actual quality of health care a person can receive here, so don't get bent out of shape. Our technology and specialists are the best in the world. Costly, yes, there is no question about that. But quality costs money.
7 :
I don;t know that people with AIDS want to come here.
8 :
they don't but never the less, can you imagine magic johnson being unable to go to germany???
9 :
isnt our healthcare like number 34 or something like that and france is ranked higher than us in healthcare
10 :
So they can load up on Obama's Santa Clause like giveaway's . God bless.

how do people get transmitted with hiv/aids?coz i thought condoms help or its only people who dont use get it

how do people get transmitted with hiv/aids?coz i thought condoms help or its only people who dont use get it?
Some people can have sex with slats for longer period of time but still go strong while others use even protection but still get it.Is it that our immune systems are different or some people are just too lucky to take risks in life?

exposure to the aids virus has a chance of infecting you....it could be sexual fluids from unsafe sex, a contaminated blood transfusion. also luck does play a part, but it isnt worth playing russian roulette with your life!!! Play safe people.
2 :
i think it mostly depends on people not using protection after that their immune system. but u can still contract other stds while having a strong immune system.
3 :
The only sure 100% protection is abstinance - don't have sex. The reality is people (including yourself) are going to have sex. You have to know how to protect yourself. The reality - condoms are as close to safesex as possible. It is possible to have unprotected sex with an HIV+ person and not get the virus. It's possible to have sex several times and not get the virus. But, do you really want to risk that chance? If you are going to have sex (and most people are) USE A CONDOM! Everytime! If you haven't got a condom, don't have sex. Delaying sex won't kill you. It may save your life. Not that HIV will kill you. But, it will make your life much more complicated. Who can get HIV? Everyone! Noone is immune from it. All HIV is is a disease. Anyone can catch a disease. Bad people get it. Good people get it. Everyone gets it. Protect yourself. Protect your life. Use a condom!
