Will surgeons perform surgery on someone who has hiv/aids

Will surgeons perform surgery on someone who has hiv/aids?
If they do, do they take any extra precautions to not expose themselves to the hiv infected blood?

They will perform surgery. They should be taking all the precautions they need anyway: gloves, mask, clothing and hair covers.
2 :
Many surgeons have labs done on everyone prior to surgery including HIV. A surgeon praticing safe surgeries shouldn't have to worry about this because they should be using the safest techniques regardless of any disease a patient might or might not have. I'm not positive, but I think it's illegal to not operate on someone strictly because they are HIV positive. However, because of the weakened immune system they may want to avoid elective (not life or death) surgery because fear of infection, which causes the most deaths in immune-compromised people. Good luck in all of your life adventures!

Why is HIV/AIDS commonly associated with the gay community

Why is HIV/AIDS commonly associated with the gay community?
I've heard about it before, but it wasn't explained. To me, it sounds like it's another ignorant comment by homophobics but i may be wrong. So, is there a real reason?

no..... maybe films like Philadelphia
2 :
We apparently spread it through unprotected sex during the 80's. Of course it came from monkey hunters in Africa. HIV is a monkey related disease, monkey hunters would get infected with it.
3 :
You know why?? cuz its a stereotype............ =.=
4 :
watch "prayers for bobby" on youtube there is a short excerpt from a news bulletin that talks about this
5 :
The year was 1976.Many homosexuals who frequented the local bathhouses in the L.A. & N.Y.C area were seeking medical treatment for some rare ailments. All of these men had the same virus.First called html1 and later identified as hiv.

IGNORANT BUFFOONS are the problem

Well, it's definitely not because we hide syringes with them and stab victims mercilessly. -shifty eyes-
8 :
unfortunately there is still a connection between the two. as you can see from the stats HIV is still occurring at a rate of 4.6 times in gay males than it occurs in straight males. Sad, but true. Here's the 2007 stats from the CDC. Transmission Category Estimated # of AIDS Cases, in 2007 and Adolescent Female Total Male-to-male sexual contact 16,749 Injection drug use 3,750 Male-to-male sexual contact and injection drug use 1,664 High-risk heterosexual contact* 4,011 Other** 181 *Heterosexual contact with a person known to have, or to be at high risk for, HIV infection. ** Includes hemophilia, blood transfusion, perinatal exposure, and risk not reported or not identified.

-that most people don't know they have it -not only homosexuals get it like previously believed -its not the "easy" people that get it -the first time you have sex you can get the disease -you cant get it by making out, sharing a drink, or hugging -they are still normal and who they were before now they just are sticken with a disease -we have to reach out and help them because many people won't

After HIV/Aids, What is the 2nd worst STD you could get

After HIV/Aids, What is the 2nd worst STD you could get?
If you know then also could you list the top 5 worst STD's? I know HIV/Aids is there but what of the other 4? Jumpman, that wasnt my question, i know how std's are given, i just wanted people opinions on what was the worst to get. Belial De Sade...did you even read the question??? For some reason I dont think stupidity is an STD...If it is then wouldnt that mean everyone is born with it?

All STD's are bad...none of them are really warm and fuzzy.
2 :
oooo tough I'd say gonorrhea
3 :
syphilis. And people can tell if you have it because of the boils on your lips
4 :
Syphillis is pretty knarly.
5 :
In my opinion, Other than HIV there are two that I think are the next worst: 1. Herpes - Not curable, and nasty. Can be passed to baby during childbirth. 2. HPV - Causes reproductive cancers down the line, and you won't even know you've got it if you don't get check-ups. All the rest are pretty gross, but they're curable. If you catch them early, the damage is usually minimal to fertility.
6 :
Herpesyphigonoraids. And genital warts.
7 :
HERPIES THEYRE TERRIBLE GROSS EWWWWWWWWWW EWWWWWWWWW EW i dont have any stds ! :D but seriously herpies is gross cause you can see them!
8 :
Most of STDs were given... you better ask for the ways to prevent all those STDs, i think that is more important...we have to promote health and prevent the spread of diseases before we know the disease process..
9 :
When your body can no longer fight off infection - this is AIDS. When you have AIDS you are suseptable to all kinds od STD's from the most mild to more severe.
10 :
Stupidity is a bad one. You get it when you are gullible enough to believe that “infections can be picked up without your system being susceptible enough to provide a fertile breeding ground for such “infections
11 :
In order Syphilis Gonorrhea Herpes Crabs Vaginal warts
12 :
Believe it or not HIV is not the most common STD - it is HPV, but you can't die from HPV. Herpes is bad, but treatable, I would have to say syphilis is pretty bad if left untreated. You can get skin lesions and even go blind as well as crazy. It is all how you look at it, anything left untreated is really bad....Women always have more symptoms than men (go figure) and that is the biggest reason these diseases are passed around so much....Have him wrap it up, and be picky with your partners...they add up quick.
13 :
If you had sex with someone that had Ebola, you'd be seriously screwed, dude. Ebola will kill you in a matter of days. And yes, it would be considered an STD. So, the next time you visit Africa, watch who you have sex with. A rubber won't even come close to saving you. So, the sex better be damn good.
14 :
First of all, that is a very ignorant belief thinking HIV is the worst. All STD's are bad and you can't number there order because each persons body reacts different to each one. People don't die from an aids related illness like in the past. And thinking that it's the worst STD is wrong. People live very normal lives with HIV and for most never have any issues. There are far worse STD's. Some can be very debilitating. Syphilis for example is very easy to catch and can attack the brain and cause people to go crazy. In fact there have been more cases of syphilis in the last few years than in the decade before. It's also much easier to catch than most std's. Most common STD's are more of just a temporary inconvenience if anything. Modern medicine clears up most all. Herpes even has a pill that now keeps it in check. iain4rangers put some in order, but I think crabs should be below vaginal warts.

How is it that african-americans lead the world in HIV/AIDs cases, but we only make up 13% of the population

How is it that african-americans lead the world in HIV/AIDs cases, but we only make up 13% of the population?
It's something fishy about this
STDs - 7 Answers

1 :
seems their casual attitudes towards multiple sexual partners might be involved.
2 :
it's not African Americans, it's Africans. The aids rate in Africa is very high and they make up more than 13% of the population so it only makes sense that they would lead the world in aids cases.
3 :
Say hello to Africa, population ~1 billion So you think HIV/AIDS was a conspiracy to kill ethnicities? First it was the Gays, now its the the africans, whats next...handicap people?
4 :
it means that of the entire african american population, they have the most # of people that have HIV/AIDS than other ethnicities. i think mexican people are close up there also.
5 :
You are confusing African-Americans with Africans. AIDS is rampant in many countries in Africa and the 13% is only the makeup of blacks in the US not in the world. Black people have more cases but most of them are in Africa.
6 :
Yeah, there is something fishy about that. Makes you wonder doesn't it.
7 :
It's not Africa Americans who lead the world in HIV cases, it's Africans. But to awnser the question, it's because of a number of facters. First of all, it seems AIDS originated in Africa (as HIV is a form of SIV found in chimpanzees in Africa) so the African population was hit first, before anyone knew what the disease was or how it was transmitted. Other populations were insulated from the original and/or ongoing outbreak either by sociatal dictations of sexual activity, isolation from the original outbreak either or before information was known about prevention, or simple or partial immunity. I attended a confrence by a leading genetic researcher (who focused on HIV) about 3 years ago. His research indicated that certain populations had either a partial (thus slowing down the onset of symptoms) or total immunity; these were the populations most affected by the Bubonic Plague some few hundred years ago. Apparently, those who were able to survive the Bubonic Plague had a mutation in their killer T cells on the Delta 32 receptor... the same one HIV uses to infect the T cells (whom are responsible for identifying foreign threats to the body... kinda like generals). While its nice to look up your ancestor and find out that you might be immune, fact of the matter is there are 2 major types of HIV out there. HIV type 2 has no immunity, is more virulent (meaning more likely to get infected), faster on-setting symptoms, and while its current contained to South Africa... it's just a matter of time before it gets out. To answer the other part of your question, the US prisons have an proportionate amount of African-Americans in it's systems in comparison with general population. Furthermore, HIV type I is most infectious with blood contact and in regards to sexual relations, anal sex tends to be more likely to cause scopic or microscopic abrasions (cuts; whether your male or female). As such, there has been pandemics in the prison systems throughout the last 15 years, ebbing and tiding, but such pandemics disproportionatly affect black males because there are more of them in there as a population percentage compaired to the other races. Upon release it is possible that they could further spread the disease through their wives, girlfriends, or other partners.

How does sex with a virgin cure HIV/AIDS? Is the hymen medicated

How does sex with a virgin cure HIV/AIDS? Is the hymen medicated?
Plz answer, doing work on a project for school. No, what I want to know is how the virgin does not get AIDS, but the man also is cleaned by the power of virginity. It is better than your BIlly Mays Shamwow, according to my teacher.

It doesn't cure it. Nothing currently can cure it. Never attempt this.
2 :
IT DOESN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!
3 :
This is COMPLETELY UN-TRUE!!! There is ABSOLUTELY no truth to this theory. Having sex with anyone/ anything does not cure AIDS or HIV.
4 :
it doesnt. that is a believe of the muslims, i think. All thats gonna do, is give a virgin AIDS, and petrify her for the next few years.
5 :
It doesn't. This misconception that is common in Africa is partially responsible for the huge spread of AIDS on that continent. All it manages to do is infect the virgin. It gives no benefit to the man at all.
6 :
it doesnt it just spreads it to the virgin(well ex virgin)
7 :
Well, you see, in a virgin's vagina, there are these little red dwarves called Teh Aidz Blockorz. What they do is, when someone with AIDS has sex with a virgin, Teh Aidz Blockorz spring into action, eliminating any AIDS from both parties. However, it's a one shot deal. If a virgin loses her virginity to someone who doesn't have AIDS, nothing happens but Teh Aidz Blockorz go away.
8 :
Nearly 60 children are raped every day in South Africa and while experts agree to disagree as to the causes, or whether the pervasive belief in the so-called "Virgin Cure" prevents/cures HIV/Aids is possibly responsible for this deeply disturbing phenomenon, university researcher, Mike Earl-Taylor suggests it could well be a contributing factor, and a major one at that. Moreover, infant rape appears to be unique to South Africa, however, the Virgin Cure is not.
9 :
NO

What is the difference between STDs, AIDS & HIV? What/Where is a good source to find clear distinction & info

What is the difference between STDs, AIDS & HIV? What/Where is a good source to find clear distinction & info?
I don't know anything about these things, and my ignorance scares me. I want to know everything. I want to know every type of STD, its symptoms, characteristics, & effects. I also want to know about HIV & AIDS. I often see them affiliated with each other; are they the same thing? I want to know the symptoms, characteristics & effects of HIV & AIDS as well. How can all these things be transmitted? What regions of the body are susceptible to these diseases?

Here's a source at the Center for Disease Control that should put you well on your way: http://www.cdc.gov/nchstp/dstd/disease_info.htm Quick summary: STDs are Sexually Transmitted Diseases. HIV is the virus that cause AIDS, the disease, which is sexually transmitted (among other ways.)
2 :
STD stands for Sexually Transmitted Disease - any form of disease contracted through sexual contact would be considered an STD. HIV is the human immunodeficiency virus, which can be transmitted sexually but also can be transmitted by blood transfusion, shared needles, pregnancy - it is transmitted by bodily fluid. AIDS is Aquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome - the HIV virus causes AIDS when the virus destroys enough of the T-cells in the human immune system.
3 :
An STD is a Sexually Transmitted Disease. Many diseases (most commonly gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, chlamydia, venereal warts, trichomoniasis and HIV)are most commonly transmitted by sexual contact. Some of these diseases can also be transmitted to the mouth and throat during oral sex, or to the anal region during anal sex. These diseases do not survive in open air very well, so the toilet seat transmission rumor is not true. Sometimes, people can get gonorrhea, chlamydia or herpes infections in their eyes as well. Actually herpes is the common virus that causes cold sores. It just depends which mucus membrane came in contact with the infected person's infected area. HIV is Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It is the virus that causes AIDS, or Auto-Immune Deficiency Syndrome. It is a very weak virus when outside the body, so it must be acquired direct contact with the blood, semen, or vaginal fluids directly into the other person's blood stream or mucus membranes of the vagina, anus, or throat most commonly. IV drug abusers can pass it to people they share needles with because it is common to pull out a little bit of blood into the syringe before injecting the drug. Another uncommon way of acquiring HIV is thru receiving a blood transfusion from an infected person. Not every one who is infected with HIV will go on to develop AIDS. Condoms provide very good protection from sexually transmitted HIV, and fair protection from some of the other diseases. If you have any other specific questions, please ask. These things are important for everyone to know.
