paxil an antidepressant usually causes weight gain...first month or so some weight loss then you gain.

Hi, there. I would say at this point (it is very early in infection if he has only had it one year) that the best thing for the person to do is to eat healthy and exercise (weight train). Sometimes, with HIV infection it may be that a person has to increase his or her total daily caloric intake to maintain the same weight -- this is because HIV can affect the gastrointestinal system and can decrease absorption among other things.. So be sure that he is eating nutritiously and not starving. If appetite is a problem there are drugs that can be prescribed or gotten from local distributors, shall we say. Loss of appetite is often the driving force behind 'wasting'. The biggest thing that he can do now to protect himself later is to increase his lean body mass by exercising, paricularly with weights. It is the loss of this lean body mass that causes problem with more advanced HIV disease. For the best and most up to date information about HIV, Nutrition, Treatment, and many other issues, check out the Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange and their online publications: http://www.catie.ca/eng/publications/publicationsIndex.shtml#web (Especially check out the "practical guides" and be sure and give this infor to your friend. It can be very helpful!)

Can I get HIV/AIDS from having unprotected sex with someone uninfected

Can I get HIV/AIDS from having unprotected sex with someone uninfected?
So say (I am bisexual) I have unprotected anal with another guy (sorry for the odd, weird, question, I know it makes you feel uncomforitable) but neither of us are infected, can the disease just pop up or is there 100% no chance to spread infection as long as neither are infected?

If neither of you are infected, the disease will not spontaneously pop up. You cannot get infected. However, you should use a condom every time with every partner to stay safe. HIV has a latent period where a recently exposed individual may be positive, but still test negative. If you truly never want to get HIV, use a condom EVERY time. Spare yourself the trouble and anxiety by covering up every time.
2 :
if neither one of you has the aids virus (100% positive after both of you take the test) then there is no way that you can give each other the hiv virus
3 :
absolutly not
4 :
No, if he's uninfected you won't get HIV.The virus has 6 months after exposure to show up though. *sigh* Who teaches kids sex ed these days?
5 :
Please, I would hope you wear a condom when you go back to liking females. Always wear condoms whether with men or women. Please do! The disease won't just pop out of nowhere if no one is infected with it. However, how do you know he is not infected? What made you be so comfortable with him to not wear a condom? Consider of asking questions like those before sex and not ask about questions afterwards. I would suggest you two get tested just for knowing status.
6 :
No, it's impossible. But don't trust anyone who tells you s/he doesn't have STD. Just go to pozcupid .com to check who have stds in your area.

HIV/AIDS Did the virus skip over geographical boundaries

HIV/AIDS Did the virus skip over geographical boundaries?

I hope you'll find the link below to be very informative, though there is a lot to dig through. It covers theories of the origin of HIV and touches on how it get spread around the world. Your question about actions taken by the leaders in the area of origination will no doubt need to be answered elsewhere. In general though, in Africa ( the most commonly acknowledged origin) politics and society in general, in many parts of Africa, are and were frequently unstable and policies changed and resources were/are often scarce. Often political leaders would not acknowledge there was a problem. Until recently both S. Africa and China didn't acknowledge there was a problem or, in S. Africa's case, gave out erroneous information.

How long after infected can you give someone HIV/AIDS

pretty much immediately. In fact people are more infectious the first few days, weeks and months after they are first infected. This is because the amount of virus in there blood at that time is very high since your body has not had the time to produce antibodies.
2 :
Dear concerned: If anyone is engaged in group sex without protection, technically speaking, they can all get it right after they came in direct contact with the virus. Generally, it depends on the person. Some people have strong immune systems and others not so much. Some takes a few days while others takes months. Hope that helps. Best wishes

What is a polite way to check whether your partner has HIV/AIDS

What is a polite way to check whether your partner has HIV/AIDS?
I am not the one dating, but I know someone else who might benefit from this. Names and details have been withheld.

Lets get tested because your never 100% sure if we weren't virgins before
2 :
do you have aids/hiv/clap? can't be more polite than that!
3 :
You have to ask your partner to go to a medical clinic and get tested for HIV/AIDS or ask that he/she see the family doctor and arrange to have a test. There are clinics all over the U.S. and Canada that do this free of charge.
4 :
At the beginning of the relationship, say -- It's very important to me that we are both safe. Since we'ver had other partners and want to be together, let's both go and get tested for STD's and HIV. You shouldn't ask this of your partner, if you are not willing to be tested yourself. And if your partner objects to you wanting to be safe, even when you are trying to protect him/her also, then there is something very wrong with the relationship. And of course, safer sex practices are still important.
5 :
Good Time to bring up HIV/AIDS conversation is when it HIV/AIDS awareness month. Because it gone to be broadcast on all the TV programs and Radio Station.
6 :
Be honest and up front. IF you are in a relationship and thinking of having sex (or already having sex) with someone you need to know what the possibilities are that you may contract ANY disease. STD's and HIV/AIDS can be prevented but we have to learn to be open and honest BEFORE intimacy. I had a friend that got Herpes from her ex boyfriend- she is honest with the men she plans on being sexual with and it scares me because NOT 1 has ever turned her down after she tells them and not all use a condom. That is her fault as well- she cannot get pregnant for other reasons but they can contract the disease so common sense will tell you to put on a condom!! Honesty is definitely the best policy in this situation.
7 :
In this day and age, asking, demanding to know if someone has HIV/AIDS/HEP C is really necessary. Using condoms is really necessary.........since the illnesses one can get these days are not those of yesteryear, when penicillan just took care of them. These illnesses can be forever, and can make forever really a shorter experience. Do not worry about being polite when it comes to finding out the truth in these areas. When lives count on the answer, standard politeness should BE to find the answers out.
8 :
Well, this might sound cold but it isn't meant to be. Your friend probably isn't ready to be partners with someone he cannot easily talk to about their status. If it were me, I would simply ask their status, and if they didn't know (or has had risky behaviors since his last test), I would recommend both get tested together. That way, it is something they share together and know together.... kind of a bonding thing. If it is more of a sex buddy thing, one should always assume they are positive.

Not really, unless she has a cut or sore on or in her mouth, and you have the same. But your chances are really really small.
2 :
not really unless you got a cut, you need to get more educate
3 :
HIV is transmitted thru bodily fluids...since you are exchanging saliva AND if you or partner has open sore, cut or lesion in mouth, the chances increase greatly. Check out lips for cold sores and bleeding gums. :O( Remember kissing leads to sex...use a CONDOM!
4 :
Most likely not. I would avoid "Frenching". A component in saliva is being studied as a blocking agent for the HIV.
