I was just wondering, since there are a lot of people who have HIV and can't afford treatment.

It used to be 7 to 10 years. That is what I always knew. That was like in the mid 1990's I heard that.

Hi JB, This question is difficult to answer. Below, I have given some of the reasons. There is no one answer which fits all! 1. If the HIV strain infecting the patient is weak then the patient will live a long time. If the HIV strain is virulent then the patient will live a shorter time. 2. If the patient's defences (immune systems) are strong then he will a long time. If his/her defences are compromised by other conditions his/her life will be shorter.
