It would depend on the type of work you want to do. If it's clerical, or medical, they would each need a different set of skills and training. If you know at this point the kind of work you want to do, call up a local clinic or hospital and talk to them about it. I'm sure they'd be happy to steer you in the right direction.

What has befallen our great scientists that has failed the world come up with an HIV/AIDS Cure

What has befallen our great scientists that has failed the world come up with an HIV/AIDS Cure?
For decades, the deadly HIV/AIDS continue to claim millions of people as if science has been kept under the beds. Why is it that there is no cure yet?
Other - Arts & Humanities - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Well, there isn't any definite cure for HIV/AIDS because for each person who has AIDS, the makeup of the HIV is different. With each set of medicines that people with HIV/AIDS takes, the doctors have to change the dosage and what medicines according to each HIV makeup.
2 :
Because that virus destroys white blood cells that kill viruses and the antibodies for it only attract the white blood cell, it engolfs (eats) the virus but then the white blood cell explodes from inside, so there is no possible cure. Good luck with finding a cure though!
3 :
The HIV virus a tough cookie. It is a "super virus" because it mutates fast. Meaning if you create a cure or a vaccination, the virus mutates "evolves" to a new form that is immune to the medicine. By the way donĂ¢€™t be fooled by thinking that the medical word has solved loads of other cures for maladies. Many very simple diseases continue to plague man. For example: the flu, staff infections, TB, polio, Small Pocks (a.k.a. Monkey Pocks, Cancer, etc.
4 :
HIV/AIDS is a clever little bug. It kills the CD4 T-lymphocyte (helper T cells). Without CD4, there can be no immune response. As of now, all of our best medicines are aimed at helping the body heal itself, not us healing the body (look at any chronic disease to know the truth of this statement). So the question arises: how do you help the body heal an infection, when it can't do anything on it's own? How do cure an infection that can't be attacked because it lies within the body's cells? To add insult to injury, there are at least 6 known strains of HIV. What kills one strain, makes another stronger, and produces yet another variation. And besides having to fight off the HIV, your body is now susceptible to any and all passing infections. It's not the AIDS that kills you, it's the common cold. That's why we haven't found a cure, or even a vaccine.
5 :
Arrogance and greed ( not just monetary ). They could have been where they are now in HIV/AIDS research twenty years ago.

If I had unprotected sex with two girls do i get hiv aids

If I had unprotected sex with two girls do i get hiv aids?
What if I had unprotected sex with two or more girls do i get infected by HIV AIDS? How do aids hits human body?
Infectious Diseases - 8 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Um maybe. The only only way to be sure is to get tested. Look up the symptoms.
2 :
If either of the girls was infected with AIDs, then there is a pretty good chance that you contracted the disease. If they were both clean, then you shouldn't worry at all. But seriously, use a condom.
3 :
Through bodily fluid it is contracted- blood, vaginal discharge, semen or breast milk. So yes, you very well could get HIV. I would be really careful.
4 :
You're more likely to catch chlamydia which can cause sterility if it goes untreated. In others, go get tested and start using condoms!
5 :
If one of them has it, then ya you probably got it. This is why one should wait until they get married. You should also be worried if you've gotten either of these girls pregnant.
6 :
You don't know how AIDS is contracted, yet you're having sex? What the hell is wrong with you? And UNPROTECTED sex? Well, congratulations, papa! Hand over your paycheck for the next 18 years. You are at risk for contracting HIV if one of your partners has HIV. AIDS is caused by HIV. A person can live for many years with HIV, but once you have AIDS you don't have much time left. It usually kills people within 2 years... or less. Start using condoms, start getting tested after each partner and asking your partners to be tested BEFORE sex, and stop sleeping around. If you don't, you'll get what you deserve.
7 :
You can't get HIV, the virus that damages the immune system and can lead to AIDS, from someone who does not have HIV. If none of the people you had sex with has HIV, you can't get HIV from having sex with them. HIV is not created just by 2 people having sex. One person has to have it for the other person to get it. However, most people who have HIV have no symptoms for several years, so you can't tell if someone has HIV just by looking at them. Having multiple sexual partners increases your risk of getting HIV, because those partners probably have multiple partners of their own, and there is a higher risk that one or more of your partners is infected. The only way to find out if you have HIV is to get an HIV test. You always have a right to insist that your partners get tested. If they are angry or refuse to get tested, they don't care about you very much, or they are hiding something.
8 :
Well, here on Yahoo Answers there are many people who don't reall know things but try to answer anyway. When it comes to something as life and death serious as HIV and Aids one should call a professional STD trained counselor to get the right answer and take appropriate action ie. testing, medication. Call this STD Hotline, it's a free call and confidential 888-585-8798 Hope that helps Evita

Who are the people who research cures and treatments for those with HIV/Aids or cancer?
I just want to know what the occupation or profession is. I'm talking about the people who try and develop vaccines, not necessarily for HIV or cancer, but those who sit in labs and test and who research possible cures. . . Thank You!

What is the transfer rate of the HIV/AIDS Virus

What is the transfer rate of the HIV/AIDS Virus?
I had an HIV test done at planned parenthood and much to my surprise they told me that some people have unprotected sex with partners which they know carry the HIV virus and never get the virus. Obviously this isn't the best idea (like playing Russian roulette) but I was wondering what the transfer rate is for the HIV/AIDS virus when unprotected sex is had with someone who is infected. Are there any stats on this?!
STDs - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
If it was one in ten million, I wouldn't chance it. Planned Parenthood is also not the most honest and reliable source of truthful and unbiased sexual information of the planet. They're blinded left wingers.
2 :
PP is sick. They will say and do anything to get people's money. Recently they caused a huge uproar because it is coming out that they protect sex offenders so they can abort their victims babies, and they are more than willing to accept racist donations to abort black babies (these are backed up by real phone calls made to PP). These people deserve to burn in hell.
3 :
There is also a small part of the population who are naturally immune. Which is the best chance for a cure really. Scientists are studying prostitutes in parts of Africa, where they think the virus originated from. Some are immune, they are not sure why. But there have been cases reported in the USA as well. It may be that sort of situation, I would think it to be the most logical explanation.
4 :
Looks like people have a lot of strong opinions, but they don't want to answer your questions. The CDC published a document entitled: Antiretroviral Postexposure Prophylaxis After Sexual, Injection-Drug Use, or Other Nonoccupational Exposure to HIV in the United States Here is the link to that website: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5402a1.htm#tab1 In that document they have a table that answers the question you are asking: Estimated per act risk for HIV-1 by exposure route Exposure Route -- Estimated infections per 10,000 exposures to an infected source Blood Transfusion 9,000 Childbirth 2,500 Needle-sharing injection drug use 67 Receptive anal intercourse 50 Percutaneous needle stick 30 Receptive penile-vaginal intercourse 10 Insertive anal intercourse 6.5 Insertive penile-vaginal intercourse 5 Receptive fellatio 1 Insertive fellatio 0.5 Thus, about 9/10 ten people who receive HIV tainted blood transfusions will subsequently develop HIV infection. If you are a female, your risk of acquiring HIV from an infected male via vaginal intercourse is actually only about 1/1000, and if you are a male, it's even less than that. Note that these statistics are only as good as the available studies, and so, these statistics may change with better data or as HIV evolves. I have cited the studies that the above figures are based upon here: 1. Donegan E, Stuart M, Niland JC, et al. Infection with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) among recipients of antibody--positive blood donations. Ann Intern Med 1990;113:733--9. 2. Kaplan EH, Heimer R. HIV incidence among New Haven needle exchange participants: updated estimates from syringe tracking and testing data. J Acquir Immune Defic Syndr 1995;10:175--6. 3. European Study Group on Heterosexual Transmission of HIV. Comparison of female to male and male to female transmission of HIV in 563 stable couples. BMJ 1992;304:809--13. 4. Varghese B, Maher JE, Peterman TA, Branson BM, Steketee RW. Reducing the risk of sexual HIV transmission: quantifying the per-act risk for HIV on the basis of choice of partner, sex act, and condom use. Sex Transm Dis 2002;29:38--43. Finally, obviously it is up to each individual to choose for themselves whether or not it is worth it to pursue risky behaviours, but it is not my place to preach. I just want to answer your question.
5 :
I have an amazing book on aids: The Aids Cover-up? The real and alarming facts about aids. by Gene Antonio Aids can be transmitted by any bodily fluids. Knowing that is enough. How do we know if we are immune? The Russian Roulette idea is exactly on the money.

Can be: Blood transfussion, sex, contact with body fluids that has blood in it. Can't be: By causal contact without body fluids and intacked skin, breathing same air, eating or drinking or going to the bathroom behind one that is infected.
2 :
CAN: Sharing needles, unprotected sex, blood donation CANNOT: over the internet, listening to Lady Gaga, waking up late.
3 :
There are too many variables for this. Try to avoid ALL physical contact with people who are HIV positive.
4 :
can- sex, sex, sex cant-being clean, jerking off, condom
5 :
You can catch HIV through: oral, anal or vaginal sex with someone who's HIV positive; sharing needles and/or syringes with someone who's HIV positive; also needlestick injuries in medical settings; mother-to-fetus in utero and mother-to-infant through breast milk; unscreened blood transfusions; Sharing some kinds of sexual toys is a theoretical means of transmission. Wound-to-wound transmission is also theoretically possible, but in real life, it doesn't really happen. You can't get HIV from: casual contact of any sort including kissing; coughs or sneezes; sharing food, drink, utensils, towels, etc., even if they may have been in contact with bodily fluids sexual activity where bodily fluids are not exchanged.

Would they be able to sense the human has aids? How would that work out?
STDs - 8 Answers

1 :
No because HIV is a disease that affects your immune system and Vampires are, needless to say, beasts at fighting off colds, pneumona, and other things that bring use mortals down. This is due to the eccessive amount of protein and vitamins they intake through the blood of people. The Vampire may become infected with the AIDS virus but will not experience the side effects nor know he/she even has it.
2 :
well the vampire isnt sucking blood its injecting it? Idk Im not douchebag, good question though
3 :
Just make something up that sounds sexy and attention grabbing.
4 :
well if the vampire is immortal, and has no blood, theni dont think the AIDS would have any affect on him. As for the victim, either she is going to become a vampire, and be freed from her disease... or she'll die. So really I don't think it matters.
5 :
no, they are dead. I would think a Vampire would be a very picky eater.
6 :
Well, since there aren't really vampires, no answer to this would be right or wrong. But I suppose my argument would be that dead people can't contract diseases.
7 :
No, as fictional characters, vampires are usually immune to HIV/AIDS. Only real people can get HIV/AIDS.
8 :
No. I've never seen a black vampire.

are people with HIV aids worried about dying soon or suffering

are people with HIV aids worried about dying soon or suffering?
are anyone with HIV or aids should be extremely worried about suffering and dying soon? is it true that HIV takes over 10 years to turn into aids.. and takes another 5 years to die from aids without using medication... that is a pretty long time to live without medication? so should those people who have it be very very worried or not?

Umm no. I have been HIV+ since 2003 and I'm healthy just like everyone else. I may have to take 2 meds a day but there's certainly no price on my health and life right? Why should we be worried? HIV is just a chronic disease like diabetes for example. People are living longer and longer (they have to look after themselves obviously). I know people that have lived with HIV for 20+ years and they are very healthy.
2 :
Well I found out 3 years ago that I was HIV+ and if you are on the right med regimine you can bring hiv/aids under control and live a long and healthy life. There are however some bad side effects from some of the meds.Hiv does not take over 10 years to turn into aids, it becomes aids when your CD4 count is below 200 copies per ML. This can happen rather fast if you dont eat healthy, take your meds, and are around others that are sick say with like the flu etc.To learn all you want on the hiv/aids subject go to www.hivplus.mag they will be very happy to answer all your questions
3 :
I am not worried about suffering, that part I could care less about. I am worried about dying too soon, but that has more to do with me not wanting to leave my baby boy without a mother. I actually found out I was HIV+ when I was pregnant back in March. After much searching as to where it came from, we have discovered that I got the virus from my birth mother. I just turned 24 and I am having no complications from the virus. I have actually been taken off of my meds and because I show a high resistance to the virus my Dr. thinks I can got 10 years without taking meds again. He also sees me living another 30 or 40 years with no problems. As for as how long a person will live, the virus effects people different ways. For me, After 24 years of no treatment my viral load was only 1500 per ml of blood. Which is great! As for my Tcells, we don't have any idea what they were like off of the meds (we will in about a month though). I also have a clean strand, so I have allot of available option of meds to use. Another bonus for me is (other than the HIV) I am a healthy person with no other medical problems, which furthers my chance for survival. I have a friend who has had the virus since she was born and she is now 49. I also knew people who really did only make is 15 years. It all varies from person to person.

YES YOU CAN. I wouldn't even have safe sex with her. You're gonna screw your life up man...Is it really worth it? I mean, come on dude... http://westtnliving.wordpress.com/2007/10/19/breast-milk-can-spread-aids-to-babies-you-can-help-by-sending-your-aids-free-breast-milk-to-africa/ Read that...You'll freak
4 :
no, its not submitted orally, it has to get into ur blood streams....
5 :
Yes. When HIV was first discovered in the early 1980s, many women contracted the disease through having a blood transfusion during childbirth. Sadly, they then unintentionally passed it on to their children by breastfeeding.
6 :
yes check out HIV in wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV
7 :
YES you can. Infants can be infected by their HIV positive mothers in this manner. If your girlfriend is indeed lactating (which she shouldn't be unless she's pregnant, had a child recently or is breastfeeding one still), then just don't do it. I've given 2 links about how HIV can be spread via breastmilk... google HIV and breastmilk for thousands more. Please-- have fun but be safe!
8 :
Yes it is possible (if you have even the tiniest cut in your mouth)
9 :
HIV Infection For Duration Of Breastfeeding http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/06/040618064447.htm
10 :
u can if you drink the breast milk
11 :
The answer to your question is: it is possible but unlikely. Yes, infants are at high risk if breast feeding from an HIV+ woman but it is different with older children and adults. In an infant, there is a brand new GI tract that easily gets inflamed as new substances (liquid, food) are introduced. This can increase the likelihood of the breast milk getting into the blood stream. Once HIV were to reach the stomach, the acid would easily kill it. In infants, the upper GI tract is not a fully closed system as infants require nutrients quickly. In an adult, or even older child, this is not the case. It is relatively difficult for an HIV infection to be acquired orally. The mouth is a pretty inhospitable place for HIV and the tough mucosal membrane makes it difficult to get in. It is possible, but unlikely. As well, there is often not a whole lot of HIV in breast milk (relative to the other fluids). You are taking a risk. And HIV is not the only thing that can be found in breast milk. If this is something you are into, then it is important that you research more about it and what you need to know to keep you safe.

im doing a presentation on HIV/AIDS for class and ive been looking online, but i want to find out how much different our peoples lives who have hiv/aids to those who dont have it. like in terms of health insurance, disability, government etc

Good question. As far as the reasearch that I've had done thus far, health insurance coverage depends on many factors as far as whether the person has HIV or AIDS because I'm sure you researched that HIV is the virus that causes AIDS, though HIV can lay dormid in a person for up to 10 years with little or no signs/symptoms. There are all kinds of insurace out there ranging from Medicaid to Medicare to private health insurance. The person should speak to a healthcare worker to find out which is right for them and what they qualify for. As far as disibility is concerned, it is a permanent disability that can not be cured and therefore that is the reason why they have SSI (Supplemental Security Income), SSD (Social Security Disability), and I'm not too sure but I remember some one saying SSSB (Social Security Survivor's Benefits). Although It takes a while to prove the case and to what severity as far as if the person is AIDS symptomatic and or is disabled to a point where employment is not possible. As far as government is concerened, There are many agencies that do cater to and help HIV/AIDS infected persons ranging from food pantries to resource centres to housing agencies. There is also the Ryan White Foundation and you can very likely look that up online to see what all in entails and what services are provided by the government. I hope this helps for your project. you can email me if you need any more suggestions or help.

Well I don't know of any jobs. but for the past 2 weeks I have been getting money from different websites that work off referrals. Basically all I had to do was fill out about 3 promotional offers and have a way to receive payment (pay pal or check) So far I have made $400. This isn't gonna work if you are trying to get rich quick. Just set up an account here http://Giftcards.ZeroPricetags.com/?REF=80504 and then choose the way you want your referrals to work. I asked family members for the first few. Its not for everyone but it is certainly paying a few extra expenses I had to pay for!
2 :
Well there's nothing wrong with it besides your working at you own home, try to look in some freelance forums well most of the time employers are posting jobs to freelance forums you might find a client out there
3 :
Make a free blog at blogger about something you are good at or truly interested in, and than put adsense on it, bring people to your blog, each time your ads get clicked you'll earn money. I can assure that you will love working on it. If you want more info let me know.
4 :
Despite your medical condition, there are numerous ways that you can make money online. Since it seems as if you have some really good virtual assistant skills, I would strongly consider that you apply for positions as a virtual assistant. The good thing about being a virtual assistant is that you could use your web browsing, wordprocessing and research skills to make money. Plus, if you get with the right company or client, you could set your own hours, rates and work when you are able. There are numerous people, all around the world, that are living productive lives with conditions like yours who hold similar positions. Although there are some companies that hire VAs directly, I suggest that you build your own business. My suggestion would be to check out bidding sites, like Elance, and build a strong profile, Include writing samples of emails, wordprocessing, etc. You can then apply for projects that specifically require someone with your skills and availability. When you bid, however, don't just place generic bids. Instead, be specific about what you can bring to a potential employer and only bid on projects with reputable buyers with proven track records of paying contractors. The good thing about Elance is that it you can view feedback of a buyer and figure out which buyers actually hire providers and which ones have a good or bad reputation before you bid. You can also view what other providers have said about this particular buyer and then use the information to your benefit. Remember that the more projects you bid on, the more likely you are to receive a gig. To date, I have completed over 700 projects for Elance and I am confident that you'll find some great jobs despite your medical condition. God Bless! Kristi Patrice Carter

HIV is an incredibly fragile virus, so it dies almost immediately once it is outside the body. That being said, good hygiene dictates that personal items such as disposable razors should not be shared. For non-disposable razors, standard antiseptic procedures such as immersing the blade in alcohol should be followed regardless of the previous user's health.

Is there any test for hiv/aids which can give 100% accurate result

Is there any test for hiv/aids which can give 100% accurate result?
I have come to know that there is no real test for HIV/AIDS.Whatever tests are there they do not give us the real results.A hiv positive person can be declared negative due to window period ? What is the solution?
STDs - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
There probably is a test which will give a 100% result. You might have to go to a specialist or something though.
2 :
The solution is for the person to wait 3 months before getting tested. But advances in technology mean that window period is becoming increasingly irrelevant. People who feel they may have come into contact with the HIV virus are able to get tested 10 days after possible exposure, but such tests are not 100% accurate. In many people, the antibodies which HIV tests look for in the blood are present a month after exposure, testing at this time will give a result over 99.8% accurate. Then a patient is advised to get tested again at 3 months which will give a result over 99.9% accurate. Obviously no test is 100% accurate all of the time, but if you take a HIV test you should be pretty confident that the result you get is correct.
3 :
When they do a blood test they count your T cells And thats how they can tell if your infected
4 :
HIV tests are used to detect the presence of the human immunodeficiency virus in serum, saliva, or urine. Such tests may detect HIV antibodies, antigens, or RNA. If you are found to be positive (even a false positive) then they do the Western Blot test which is the gold standard of all HIV testing. The CDC even states it is best to continuing testing at 3 months, 6 months and even up to 1 year after a possible HIV interaction. Diligence is testing is the solution while the CDC and other labs continue to perfect testing abilities. The tests they had a few years ago don't even meet the standards of most testing done now adays. This was in 2005 - "...the use of repeatedly reactive enzyme immunoassay followed by confirmatory Western blot or immunofluorescent assay remains the standard method for diagnosing HIV-1 infection. A large study of HIV testing in 752 U.S. laboratories reported a sensitivity of 99.7% and specificity of 98.5% for enzyme immunoassay, and studies in U.S. blood donors reported specificities of 99.8% and greater than 99.99%. With confirmatory Western blot, the chance of a false-positive identification in a low-prevalence setting is about 1 in 250 000 (95% CI, 1 in 173 000 to 1 in 379 000)." Nothing in life is fail safe, nothing in life is 100% accurate expect for birth, death and taxes. By testing standards today, along with diligence and following the guidelines/window period through testing can we continue to see if patients are positive and negative. It is with any type of test out there; from condoms, birth control and other STD testing. Nothing is 100% accurate but you can rely on better testing now than you did years ago. Even the NAAT testing for Chlamydia and Gnorreahra is currently at 95% when three years ago it was between 60% - 80% accurate. "Other studies have confirmed the accuracy of current methods of HIV testing in the United States, reporting false-positive rates of 0.0004% to 0.0007% and false-negative rates of 0.003% in the general population." If you wanna be a denialist and put everyone in a tizzy because you think it's stupid to test, do it on denialist websites instead of being pesimisitc that nobody in life can give you 100% all the time. It's life, deal with it.

How can we educate people in Africa and around the world about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and how to prevent it

How can we educate people in Africa and around the world about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and how to prevent it?
AIDS has ravaged the third world, and left millions of people dead. The way to stop it lies not in cures and treatments, but in education. We must get the message across to the populations of developing countries that they can stop this deadly disease, but only by stopping it from infecting people in the first place.

Well you know the old saying don't you?? You can bring a horse to water but you can't make him drink it. Same with people my dear.
2 :
Problem is that even IF you educate everyone, some people won't care or still think they are lucky. Some may even believe a cure is just a few years away. So either way they won't take precautions. Plus since you can transmit it with needle injects, blood transfusions, etc, you may still spread it even if you don't have sex. Only ways left to stop it: 1) develop a real cure or vaccine 2) permanent quarantine of those infected
3 :
The only way that I know of preventing people from engaging in risky behavior is through education and training....While Africa may be considered one of the 'hot spots' for new HIV cases, Southeast Asia also struggles with escalating numbers of new cases (i.e. China, Bangladesh, India, etc.)...all we as a people can do is offer support and new tools to inform people of ways to minimize exposure to the disease.

If 10% of the average $907 that Americans spent on Christmas gifts went to children in need, 42 million children could be helped for an entire year according to statistics provided to me during an interview with World Vision. This year, I conducted an experiment, and asked for donations to World Vision and Heifer.org instead of Christmas gifts. Many folks simply chose to give me gifts anyway, but many did make donations instead, resulting in $137 going to these charities. I also have a website where I sell art to support these two fine Christian organizations. The next time you need art for your walls, please consider my website. My personal favorite of my own work is Stir the Groove3. Recently I have had several new artists donate to this cause also If you know of artists who might wish to join this charity model, please send them my way. http://finerworks.com/gallery.asp?u_id=r... I have cancer from hiv/aids, But i try and stay in shape and play soccer, A lot.? My question is How do I stay hydrated, I am having problems With dehydration. I just feel so dried out after I play and then I feel nauseous??????? even with drinking lots and lots of water I still have problems rehydrating, I feel so dry from inside out????

Drink a lot of water before you play and right after you play.
2 :
Carry a bottle of water always and count how many you are actually drinking so you know if you are getting enough. You should be resting when you body says to rest. Now that you have these 2 things, your bodies immune system in weaker and compromised. You can't push yourself like the average person. LISTEN to your BODY. Rest and stop and sleep when you body says too or you are going to get sick.
3 :
Well I don't know if this will help, but a lot of the time when I go jogging in the morning i drink gatorade it helps me from getting dehydrated it's not very good but it works for me.

I recently got my bangs trimmed by someone who had a sore on their finger could I get hepatitis or HIV/AIDS?
I recently got my bangs trimmed by a man who had an un bandaged sore on his finger, he looked very untidy, and the sore wasn't bleeding or oozing from what I could tell. But I have dry scalp and tend to get sores on my scalp as a result, could this guy have given me hepatitis or HIV/AIDS?
STDs - 3 Answers

wow. why did you let him cut your hair? Anyway, prolly not, and you should soak your scalp with neem oil about once a week, then wash out the oil with a gentle neem based shampoo.
2 :
No. You wont be the first to make history.
3 :
No worries! HIV can only be transferred through open wounds to the blood. You definitely do not have HIV. The sores on your scalp are just from having a dry scalp (I know. I have a bad problem with dry scalp also and have to use a special shampoo).

What is your opinion on a situation when a woman becomes pregnant but has HIV/AIDS

What is your opinion on a situation when a woman becomes pregnant but has HIV/AIDS?
A woman who is HIV positive and pregnant has a huge risk of transmitting the virus to her baby if she decides to follow through with her pregnancy. Would you recommend for women with HIV to get an abortion to prevent the risk of harming their child? Why or why not?
Infectious Diseases - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I highly look down upon that. I think that because that woman knew that she was dying and she has a contagious diesease, she should have made sure that she was protected and had no chance of getting pregnant. Further more, she not only gave this diesease to a baby that will have a very short life, but she also gave it to whoever she was impregnanted by. It's a very selfish act. Even though she is probably happy to have the baby, I thinnk that she should abort. Save the baby from all the pain that it is going to have to endure after it is born. It's not fair that it should be cursed with those dieseases. Though, if she decided to follow through, then that's her choice. Though it is a very selfish choice, and the doctors who deliver her baby are going to have to be extremely careful, because they can easily get the dieseaser also.
2 :
Depends on the female if she could have the baby ok or not if she were raped or family member did this In some cases the answer would be abort asap the other may be go ahead and have the baby. If a woman is pregnant the baby is already infected with the disease from jump street straight up!!!!!!!!!!! No one should be able to make that kind od direction for a woman unless she is mentally disable
3 :
actually the baby has a really slight chance of having it.and the baby will be tested for a very long time(repeatedly after it's born, because hiv/aids CAN show up later on). so if the woman has a caring and devoted partner that agrees to look after their child in the event that she may lose her life, then I think it's fine.
4 :
If the woman is taking ARVs & the baby gets them for its first 6 weeks, the risk of transmission to the baby is reduced by 70%. Also, with HAART people can live long, relatively health lives. Women should not be denied the opportunity to have children because they have HIV. It should be a personal choice.
5 :
I would not recommend an abortion. These days, with proper treatment, the risk of transmission of HIV through pregnancy is actually very low. Women who are pregnant and have HIV can take medications and have C sections, which will reduce the risk of transmission of the virus to the baby to 1%. However, since risk of transmission can not be completely eliminated, women who have HIV should think very carefully about the risk and what they are getting into before deciding to have children. (I'm not saying they should decide not to have kids, I'm just saying they should think about it carefully before making a decision.) (Women who are HIV+ should not breastfeed, because the virus can be transmitted through breastfeeding.)

Can people with HIV / AIDS / STDs have sex without infecting their partner

Can people with HIV / AIDS / STDs have sex without infecting their partner?
I am not discriminating, just curious. I have always wondered if it is possible for a person with a non-curable disease that can be transmitted sexually to be intimate with someone else and have NO RISK OF INFECTING THEM. Obviously, I know condoms are not 100% effective. If a person has HIV/AIDS, and they know there is even a small chance they could infect their partner, how can they bring themselves to have sex? I would rather be celibate than risk infecting someone if I were infected myself! And this applies to oral sex, kissing, etc. HIV, for example, can be transmitted through any bodily fluid, as far as I know. BTW, people with HIV/AIDS can get it through many avenues not involving sex, so don't lecture. I know this already. So, can someone with HIV/AIDS have sex/kiss/be intimate with absolutely no risk of infecting their partner?

I think that magic johnson did not give it to his wife. I am thinking that it is possible to not infect someone but I would not take that chance. I also think that kissing someone and not catch aids is bull crap because they say do not let anyone use your toothbrush if you have Aids so why would they say this about a toothbrush, and then say you can not catch Aids from kissing.
2 :
nope. there is always a chance. even in kissing if they have herpie sores in their mouths you can get infected.
3 :
A spermicidal foam/jelly and latex condom used together are very effective. Both parties assume the risk with full knowledge of the consequences. It's their choice. We just can't impose our own values on others.
4 :
It's possible to have sex and not give someone the disease you have but there is no 100% effective prevention method. I've slept with a few women in my day and wound up with only things that could be cured (luckily) but the point is, I still wound up with them! You cannot be absolutely sure you will not catch or transmit a disease unless you just don't have sex or do anything else that involves exchanging bodily fluids!
5 :
Nope
6 :
well i have studied this matter and you cant cant it from a insect because it can't live in an insects body. and no you can't catch aids from some one who does not have the virus.

well statistics shows that AIDS is the number one killer for black women ages 25 to 35, 1 in 5 people actually has some form of H, which is HIV HPV or HSV....... that's a big number. after a while it will be almost impossible to find someone that is not infected with an STD, I guess the FDA will finally approve on a cure of HIV and AIDS as well as HSV... shhhhhh...... we arent suppose to know that.

9 :
What if they're native to here? You're going to kick them out of their own country?

No

13 :
1. Why? 2. To where? 3. You have NO idea how deportation works, huh? 4. I don't blame you; I blame the education system. ~
14 :
No. They should be arrested for infecting someone though without the other person's knowledge. EDIT Why did I get thumbs down? Are you saying it should be perfectly legal to infect someone with HIV without telling them first? Literally, it's gradual murder. And most people don't have enough money to pay for all the drugs you need for prolonged life
15 :
Deporting people for being infected with a disease is totally wrong. What happens when it goes to diabetes, cancer, and eventually migrates to obesity and we deport the whole country then?
16 :
Dumbass.
17 :
No, having a disease is no crime and not sufficient cause to remove anyone from the US. Also, HIV/AIDS can be controlled remarkably well nowadays in countries like the US.
18 :
Why are they unfit to live? And why should they be deported? To where? Being sick is not a crime, nevermind something worthy of deportation. I hope you're not serious.
19 :
it would be nice if we could deport people without brains or compassion, but i wonder who would take them.
20 :
Why? It is very unfair. Now think of it as if you had AIDS. Want the US to deport you out in the middle of no where for having such a thing?

Can HiV/aids be transmitted through contact with the toilet with your genital area

Can HiV/aids be transmitted through contact with the toilet with your genital area?
I am just wondering if HIV can be transmitted if your genital area touches an area of a toilet that has urine on it or semen? How long does it take for the virus to survive on the toilet? Can you get hiv from a bathroom at a shopping store?
    STDs - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
    1 :
i do not recommend sitting on a toilet sit if not in your home and the virus dies once it hits the air
    2 :
no clue, but why the hell would you sit down on a dirty toilet? I take disinfectant wipes in my purse for those unholy moments...
    3 :
    No you can't.
    4 :
Yes. It's possible. But only under *extremely* specific and VERY unlikely circumstances. For example, the following would need to occur in sequence and very rapidly: 1) Person with HIV and a bleeding or otherwise weeping wound on his or her genitals sits on a toilet seat, 2) the person gets up, then 3) another person *IMMEDIATELY* (and I mean a very fast tag-team effort of no more than a couple *seconds*) sits down with his or her open and bleeding wound directly on the same spot and remain there long enough for the virus to actually enter the body. In the case of semen on the toilet seat, you'd have *also* have to immediately sit down with a similar wound directly on that infected bodily fluid. And who wants to sit on a bloody, ooze-covered, or otherwise moist toilet seat? Look, HIV doesn't live very long without a host; seconds at most. And, if HIV *was* transmitted though toilet seats, many MANY more people would have HIV than already do. So, don't worry about it.

If I have a normal pap smear does that eliminate the chance of having HIV/AIDS

If I have a normal pap smear does that eliminate the chance of having HIV/AIDS?
I had unprotected sex 3 years ago, and I didn't ask if the person had HIV. We used a condom but took it off and he withdrew before he orgasmed. I had a pap smear the other month and it came back NORMAL. Would that determine if I didn't have HIV/AIDS?
    STDs - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
    1 :
No. A pap smear is to check for cancer only. It does not include any STD's, HIV/AIDS. You have to ask for these additional tests to be done and some involve cervical cultures, others involve blood testing. And, withdrawal is never a form of birth control - you can get pregnant this way and also pick up dangerous diseases.
    2 :
I don't think so, HIV/AIDS needs blood test to be detected, pap test is for detecting cervical cancer or HPV, you should get tested to make sure!
    3 :
    no
    4 :
What planet are you living on? The pap smear does not check for STDs. AT ALL. It checks for cervical cell changes that are caused by HPV, but most women with HPV have normal paps. You need an HIV test to determine whether you have HIV. A normal pap smear tells you that the chance of you having cervical cancer right now is extremely low.

good luck to you. wiping out the myths running around that country is the biggest hardest task...right now men believe that having sex with a virgin will cure AIDS, good luck changing that belief.
    2 :
I think most people agree the current "best" treatment is a cocktail of antiviral drugs known as Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy (HAART). As for what African AIDS victims need the most, that's a tougher question. The easy answer would simply be better access to the available drugs. A more complicated answer would involve massive education programs about treatment and prevention.
    3 :
the best treatments are found in Singapore. the united states is super controversial about AIDS treatment. the people in Africa need to raise awareness... have access to condoms, and know their risks. i think if they know what is out their and know the facts, they will be more prepared. also i heard they use plastic wrap? i think condoms should be more distributed :(
    4 :
To be very blunt - they need caring people to help them with their daily lives. Of course the little things like HIV meds would be very nice. But, in Africa you have grandmothers hoping they'll live to be old enough taking care of their grandchildren, because the parents have died from causes related to HIV/AIDS. Food, clothing, shelter, safety all come in a close second. In many countries young women can't go out at night for fear of rape gangs. And, the gangs are often members of that country's "military" or ruling local tribe. Forget niceties like transportation, books, and computers. In many places the people would be happy for a single meal and fresh water daily.

If you go around to local businesses and tell them what you're goals are you will begin to find some backing. Try social services and the media. You can advertise on the radio for free if it is a public service. Get the word out there. Pretty soon you will be able to put on raffles and drives and get funding to help spread the word. Try writing a letter to your local government officials to see what they can do to help. Bless you. The world needs more people with hearts like yours. Spelling is not the most important thing in the world. Where do you live?

You can contact your local AIDS Service Organization such as the Coastal Bend AIDS Foundation (CBAF), work through your local church, or contact your local Health Department. Do you think that more money should be spent on curbing the HIV/AIDS pandemic?

No, what we should do is round em all up and put them in leper style colonies. If they leave, they get executed.
    2 :
it will never be accomplished as it was designed and deployed and is doing exactly what is was designed to do...Eliminate a large percentage of the population that was deemed to be of lower value, undesirables if you will, ie Gays, Blacks, Drug users... with Gays it was deployed in the Hepatitis B vaccine in 78 and 79, then 81-82 , 1980 was a study year to see if the virus was spreading as they wanted it to, it was determined it was not, so another 2 years of the contaminated Hep B vaccine was ordered. The entire continent of Africa is slated for expiration, as they deployed AIDS in the smallpox vaccine along the same time-line, and the infection rate in Africa is tremendous, which was the intent... To the people who believe the African Green Monkey theory I have to say this, if it were the African Green Monkey that spread this disease it would have spread from the Jungles into the cities, but it's spreading from the cities into the jungles, and did not show up in the people most closely associated with contact with the monkey (The Pygmies) until the early 90's from contact with prositutes from more urban areas, and the genetic makeup of the disease is not found in monkeys. As for the drug users, we are told that HIV cannot live outside the body but for seconds, but Dr.Robert Strecker took a HIV-diseased human tissue culture and placed it in a petrie dish and placed it on a window sill for 2 weeks, then brought it down and hit it with a saline solution and re-cultured the virus... hmmm well that does not support what we are told now does it? it is suggested that AIDS/HIV is placed into the drug shipments and allowed to circulate into the country, that would justify why the rate of infection among intravenous drug users is so high, even though that by now, everyone knows not to share needles, and there are needle exchange programs all over, but the numbers keep growing.. hmmmm sounds fishy to me. How did Haiti get an infection rate so high? they sent 7000 healthcare workers to Africa to help to distribute the smallpox vaccine, they themselves took the vaccine, so 7000+ infected individuals came back to a relatively small island with an HIV infection they knew nothing about. How did South America get such a high infection rate? They were buying almost all of their whole blood from Africa during those years... hmm that would explain it wouldn't it? Don't believe what you're told by the people that pose as your protectors, you are but an unfortunate side effect of what the elite feel is necessary... in that they need YOU to pay taxes and to be their slaves, but you also take up space on the planet, valuable space that they want for themselves, and they want to exterminate the portion of the population that is undesirable.... sound familiar?... Do with this information what you will, don't email me with questions for more information, I've given you enough that your thirst for more knowledge on this subject should direct you to other sources, so that you can't claim or think it came from just one person... if you have doubts that Americans or Un-Americans for that matter could or would perpetrate such a deviant act against it's own people I urge you to read "Bad Blood" for just one example of well documented case of such... Oh and if they ever claim to have a vaccine for AIDS, DON'T TAKE IT, for you can't expect the very entity that is responsible for this disease to produce a cure for it, especially since it's doing exactly what is was designed to do... Peace...
