After your t-cell count drops below 200, you'll start to develop opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis or pneumonia. The majority of people will succumb to these infections because their immune systems are already so compromised.
2 :
You pretty much get so weak that you can die from the common cold and so on. What ever you are unlucky enough to catch will kill you.

Catching hiv/aids or stds, when fingering a hooker with a cut in the finger

Catching hiv/aids or stds, when fingering a hooker with a cut in the finger?
I had sex with a hooker and I fingered her with a small on my finger. i did not realize and I felt a little slight tingy feeling on my finger. I pulled it out right away. I used a condom with her and everything, but what are my chances of getting HIV/AIDS from this? Or Stds? I'm scared as fcuk.

If you were going to be worried about something like that, you shouldn't have done it in the first place. I hope you realize that just because you were wearing a condom doesn't mean you are safe from all STDs. You should go and get a run of tests at the doctor. NOW.
2 :
Broken skin is certainly a pathway into the body, so technically there is a risk here. Not as much of one as if you had unprotected sex. Are you likely to get it... not likely, but this is a roll of the dice kinda thing... there is always a chance you can roll the magic number no matter how low that number is. A MD may not even recommend a test given your risk... but you can always ask... and you can still get tested if it will help you relax and get over the scare. Other STDs... yeah... again... possible... herpes can transmit into open sores... and herpes has been known to transmit into the hand... seen in masseuses from contact with cuts on hands and skin infected by herpes. Would appear as a sore on your hand.. usually for some reason around the base of the thumb. Syphillis could transmit through a cut if your finger came in contact with a syphillitic sore/rash. Condom was good protection against other bacterial infections like Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, and they won't pass through a cut, so no worries there.

Is it true that HIV/AIDS was transmitted to humans by men having sex with monkeys

Is it true that HIV/AIDS was transmitted to humans by men having sex with monkeys?
I hope noone is offended by me asking this question. Just trying to find out if it's an urban myth or if there's any truth in it,

1 :
No one know for sure but it is most likely an urban myth. I the area where HIV/AIDS is thought to have come from they eat monkeys. It is logical to assume that an infected monkey was eaten rather than a man had sex with a wild monkey.
2 :
hi, no, i'm pretty sure it was passed through the blood
3 :
that was the cover up story the CIA wanted us to beleive so that we wouldnt uncover the truth! which is that they needed a way to kill out a good number of the population cos people were reproducing at a really fast rate, so the CIA in their top secret labs created the virus. well thats another theory, you wont have much luck finding out which is real.
4 :
No, HIV was not transmitted to humans via sex with monkeys. It is believed, however, that it did come from monkeys. The likely mode of transmission would be monkey blood getting on cuts in the human's skin. Certain cultures in Africa actually eat monkey and through the process of removing the meat from the animal there is a substantial amount of exposure to the blood (and sharp objects). It's an urban myth.
5 :
this is a myth u cant transmit HIV/AIDS through a monkey hello its in the name human immunodeficiency virus it will only transmit through humans
6 :
Urban myth most likely. The fact that this 'theory' is still around says more about our own racism and homophobia than it does anything else. We know definitively that HIV originated from an ancient simian (monkey) infection called Simian Immunodeficiency Virus, or SIV that has been around for longer than humans have. It probably jumped several times to humans over the course of human history but didn't successfully jump until around 1930. We know that HIV-2 (found in Western Africa) is related to a different strain of SIV showing that there was a distinct jump from monkey to human for HIV-2 as well. People eat what is around them and for many people who live near jungles, monkeys are a source of food. Hunters of bushmeat can come into contact with a variety of infections from the animals they trap, kill, and butcher for the meat. It is much more likely that this is how HIV jumped successfully from monkey to human. In fact, there is a research project looking at studying bushmeat hunters around the world looking for early cases of zoonotic infections (that may or may not cause disease). With early detection, large epidemics can be stopped. If we had this kind of surveillance pre-HIV, the epidemic may not have been an epidemic: excellent video on the research project: http://www.ted.com/talks/nathan_wolfe_hunts_for_the_next_aids.html

What do you think will happen if someone has HIV/AIDS and rabies at the sametime

What do you think will happen if someone has HIV/AIDS and rabies at the sametime.?
Lets say someone has HIV/AIDS and the person goes out their in the wild and the HIV/AIDS person gets bit by a animal that has rabies. What do you think would happen if the person had both at the sametime

Uhhhh die?
2 :
Well I'd like to talk to you about Diabeetus. It hurts me to pee and it causes me to be short with my family. I can't sleep at night. The other day i stubbed my toe and took it out on the dog. Then two weeks ago i ran out of apple pie and hit my wife
3 :
your gonna die fast
4 :
well, HIV/AIDS lowers the immune system so if serious infection occures such as Rabies, most likely if untreated they will die, rabies is a desiese that effects the nerves which in the end the person dies. So in all...If a person with AIDS gets rabies there's a possible 50/50 chance they either live or die.
5 :
OMG. Two bad, the person's immune system has been damaged by HIV. So he or she will die fast. Sorry, but it's the truth!
6 :
PINGAS.

you should consult your doctor or check websites.
2 :
On the basis that you were indeed asking for websites which the previous respondent seemed to forget, here is one that might provide some useful info. It is my own site, a little in need of a pruning but has a substantial amount of HIV information. http://www.mark.lineisp.co.uk/hiv1.htm
3 :
http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/dhap.htm Most comprehensive and up to date.
4 :
The world health organiation web site has lots of info, just google world health organization and the web site will appear I don´t have it in mind right now but it´s great.

Is the University of MN the only place doing extensive research on cancer & HIV/AIDS

Is the University of MN the only place doing extensive research on cancer & HIV/AIDS?
I know I am being biased, as I'm from MN myself. But I was wondering if any other universities or places are doing some research also? (Forgive my ignorance.) TIA for your answers.

of course not. Do you think a med school that isn't ranked in the top ten would have a corner on those? you'd think being form minnesota you'd have thought of the Mayo clinic. (Rochester in case you were unaware) Across the Mississippi the UW and MCW are both doing research certainly on cancer, probably on HIV as well, same with Iowa to the South. I've proved you wrong four times without leaving the midwest.
2 :
As for cancer research - Univ of MN is barely a blip - The name on most everyones minds when it comes to cancer is MD Anderson in Texas. You also have NIH (Bethesda), Clevland Clinic, and I'll throw in John Hopkins as some of the better known research centers. As for AIDS, I imagine the CDC in Atlanta is doing some interesting things. Hook up to the government website on research studies for more information.

What happens to the HIV/AIDS strain when two afflicted people become a lovers

What happens to the HIV/AIDS strain when two afflicted people become a lovers?
Does it turn into a mutant strain? I amm in a very stable hetro relationship. My fear is that a mutation would cause further mental and pyshical instbility among the gay community and pass tihs on to bi sexual people possably infecting the heteral Communty and pro ducing I dont know what, I cant get my mind around it.Wouldnt it be great if these blubonic babys turned into beautyfull angels of light ,love and sweetness upon their birth and had the power to heal the this nation end wars and world hunger? If wishes were horses we would all ride. I hpoe your all doing well and take care

i guess nothing because they are reinfecting each other.
2 :
You must be joking. Fortunately if they are lovers they aren't going around infecting others. That is about the only thing that happens.
3 :
Yeah, if two HIV+ people have unprotected sex and pass the virus onto one another it can mutate and cause a wold of mess. Your body is already trying to deal with your OWN strand of the virus but when someone ELSE'S strand gets in there it makes it worse and messes up your antiretroviral therapy you may be on. Oh, yeah, the above mentioned comments are SO off whack it's not even funny. I know this because I have HIV.
4 :
you mean if they both have a different strain? that's a good question i hope someone answers it right oh thanks to the person above me that is very interesting
5 :
Nothing more (or nothing less) will happen. If there is more than one strain of HIV, I'm not aware of it. HIV is the antibody that leads to Aids. There are six stages of HIV with the final stage being AIDS. This is terminal. There is no cure. Death is imminent. There is no mutation-the stages are progressive.
6 :
What I heard was the people that are infected with HIV are still advised to wear condoms to protect each other. Some partners T cells may be stronger then the other partner, and they may start becoming more healthier, while taking medications. On the other hand, if the other partner T cell low , then they may make there partner become more ill.
7 :
I don't think that anybody really knows what happens in this case...but whatever the outcome is you can bet that it won't be good...I would think that both partners would end up each with 2 different strains...but I'm not an Aids doctor..

How come Christians say HIV/AIDS is a punishment from God for gay people when Christians get it too

How come Christians say HIV/AIDS is a punishment from God for gay people when Christians get it too?
So yeah. I'm just thinking. Is it like 'it's associated with gay people... therefore it's gay punishment hallelujah' or is it that 'yeah, it's from god to gays... and them and them and them and them? Or has this few year old consensus died out yet?

Because they are inflicted with the mental illness of religious beliefs.
2 :
Christians don't say that. Just loony fundamentalists do.
3 :
As a Bi Christian without any of that, I wonder too! Instead of compassion, it's politics with my brethren. I wonder how much politics it takes before my brethren will begin to appreciate the Gospel again? What a shame!
4 :
They also believe the big Asian Tsunami, and Hurricane Katrina, and the Haiti earthquake were all punishment from god.
5 :
No it is not a punishment from God, but if gays would see how God feels towards such deviation hey would not get HIV/AIDS.Also HIV/AIDS is also a Heterosexual disease too.
6 :
I think it's the only way they can justify homosexuality as wrong beside it being written in an old book.
7 :
I've not heard anyone actually say that. I've heard people SAY that people say that, but I've never actually heard anyone say it.
8 :
you're probably gay, right?
9 :
++The adversaries of the Lord will shall be broken to pieces. 1 Samuel 2:10 Jesus is Lord. ++++
10 :
I think this was once an accepted mentality about HIV but I don't think few people honestly believe this now. If they do, they are among the minority who are narrow minded, fundamentalists who fail to understand the disease and who just like to randomly blame the gay population for the WRONGS of the world. HIV certainly has roots in unprotected SEX but hardly just with or because of gay people.... WE ARE all subject to this disease regardless of our gender or sexual orientation - MOST sensible and reasonable people understand that now.
11 :
I think only a few so-called Christians actually believe that God would do that. Like the Hillsboro Baptist Church. They basically say that America as a whole is being punished for our sinful lifestyle, including AIDS and the deaths of soldiers in Afghanistan as part of God's punishment. Whatever.
12 :
Real Christians don't say that. Anyone can call themselves Christian and even believe it but the gospel teaches not to judge. The bible teaches that God is not a respecter of persons, in other words, he doesn't care about a person station in life. God can save a person with HIV as well as any one else. Jesus was asked why he consorted with the lowest class of people, he set them straight. It may have been a consensus among a noisy relatively (I hope) few, but I hope it has died out. That church that picketed gay funerals has had legal action taken against it. Actions like that are not inspired by God, rather the opposite, to make Christians look bad.
13 :
Lets try and understand the association, Sin is sin for one and sin has ramifications sexual impurity gay or straight has proven to be a carrier of all kinds of social diseases besides Aids, VD and a host of others those that are sinning bear this burden the most. All will bear the burden as well because of the way society has handled the sin calling it natural or whatever and then not taking precautions and the disease spreads like a wild fire. Who's to blame? well with aids here is a unique history aids is a well studied disease and it's spread from one isolated area has proven to be from one single gay man. Is he to blame for the whole situation? yes and no. As in Adam of the original sin as the Bible says all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God as in this fellow bringing aids to all, well you do the science.
14 :
The real question should be: If God gave AIDS to the gays, then how did the Christians get it? O.o When you come to realize that there is no perfect Christian, you can see how big of hypocrites most of them are.
15 :
As a Christian I can say that these are ignorant answers, and easy to flip off. We are all under the sin of Adam, and whether it be death, disease, famine, natural or man-made disaster we are all affected by the fallen, decaying, cursed world we live in. The world that we know is dominated for a time, by the devil and man God has let us "have at her" so to speak. All we have to do is read the news to see the truth in the evidence around us. To say that God targets a certain group with a specific affliction is false, particularly since Jesus' paid mans debt on the cross. In his words, "It is finished". However, God allows all of the above to happen, but will intercede as we pray and ask for His intercession in our lives.
16 :
This disease is transmitted via sexual contact and blood borne. HIV/aids will affect people in 2 ways. (1) The bible only condones the act of sex when a man & woman is married. If one abstain from sex until marriage & doesn't commit the act of adultery this cannot happen Gen 2:24, Eph 5:31,Heb 13:4, Rom 7:2-3, 1 Th 4:3,. (2) This can also be contracted through contaminated blood being also a blood borne disease. The intake of blood by blood transfusions can extremely put a person at risk. So if the council at Acts 15:29 is taken literally you will enjoy good health from that level.
17 :
Christians who say that are hypocrites who know nothing about God. We are not to judge and punish, only God is, so how are we to know that STDs are punishments from God? So many "christians" are filled with hate and anger against unbelievers, giving God a bad name. Its all about love
