Does anyone have any idea what this HIV/Aids statistic would be

Does anyone have any idea what this HIV/Aids statistic would be?
I am estimating that around 1 in 300 people in the US has HIV or AIDS. Does that sound right to you? Does anyone know for a fact, or have a different estimate?

I do not know that for a fact, but these days I would have thought it was much lower. Why don't you telephone an STD clinic at your local hospital and obtain a verifiable figure and the reference source? Best wishes.
2 :
You are looking for a statistic called "prevalence." Prevalence refers to the number or proportion of cases existing within a population. The CDC compiles data and issues HIV statistics on a regular basis http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/surveillance/resources/factsheets/prevalence.htm According to them, 1.1 million people in the US were living with HIV in 2006. Given that 300 million people live in the US, you'd be right: about 1 in 300 people inthe US are living with HIV.

I'll wait to hear about it from the CDC. It sounds like a possibility, but only that until it is declared a cure.

Has this been tested, done and replicated in a medical setting?

The topic of religion and AIDS has become highly controversial in the past twenty years, primarily because many prominent religious leaders have publicly declared their opposition to the use of condoms, which scientists feel is currently the only means of stopping the epidemic. Other issues involve religious participation in global health care services and collaboration with secular organizations such as UNAIDS and the World Health Organization.

What cities/states provide the best HIV/AIDS assistance

What cities/states provide the best HIV/AIDS assistance?
I'm thinking of moving and I have been HIV+ for 20 years. I am going on ssdi soon. I want to know what cities and states provide the best assistance programs with the least hassles. I have considered moving to Colorado, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Arizona and prefer to stay away from the east coast and the coastal parts of the west coast. Any ideas guys?

I would think any major urban cities would have better assistance, comparative to the rural cities. I was going to state probably San Francisico, New York City, Boston and the like but i see you would rather not :) My friend informed me Phoenix was a good place for assistance and perhaps the weather there might me more benefical but hey, I hate the winters myself! *LOL* Good luck and sorry I couldn't help more!

Abstinance of course! Its hard to get an STD if you dont have intercourse. But if you arent going to be abstinant, the best thing to do is to wear a condom. I suggest trojan!

It's certainly possible to transmit STDs by sharing sex toys, such as a fleshlight. But how likely it is depends on the amount of time between when different people used it; and what kind of STD it is. This is because many STD organisms and viruses, especially HIV, can't survive very long outside the human body. Also HIV can only be transmitted if it gets into your bloodstream, whereas other STDs might only need to make contact with your skin. Staph will last longer outside the body than HIV, and unlike HIV, staph also doesn't need to get into your bloodstream to cause infection. From now on, if you use sex toys, don't share them and was them with soap and warm water before and after use. That will greatly reduce any chance of catching STDs from them.
2 :
My brother and I have shared a lot of things... But... That's just nasty!!! You deserve a staph infection.
3 :
Its possible but unlikely. No more sharing sex toys lol. Sounds like fun though :)

i think it is very individualized. everyone's body reacts differently. it depends on their viral load and CD4 count. here's a website that may have some STATS on the life expectancy. i have seen them before but i cant remember. i think i read that once diagnosed the average person lives about 10 years but that varies a great deal. i know people w/ HIV diagnsosis who have been + for >10 years www.cdc.gov/hiv

The opportunistic infections that accompany an AIDS pt. will probably kill them within a year or so, if not properly tested and treated with today's modern medications...the Pt's. who receive treatment have an average life expectancy of probably 10-25 yrs. I know of several AIDS Pt's. on multiple meds and treatment who were infected in the 80s and are doing well. I don't recall knowing anyone from the 60s or 70s, mainly due to the fact that the AIDS drug were not around then to help them. Since the advent of newer drugs, they are now living longer productive lives....and some you can't even tell that they have AIDS...hope this helped. :O)
