How can we be on the brink of creating a Swine Flu vaccine but not an HIV/AIDS one

How can we be on the brink of creating a Swine Flu vaccine but not an HIV/AIDS one?
Does anyone smell a conspiracy? We've had 20 some years to develop an AIDS vaccine but we still haven't. We've dealt with the Swine flu for about 1.5 months and we are just moments away from the vaccine. What are your thoughts on this??

There is too much money in Aids treatment that there won't be a cure anytime soon. Swine flu is pretty much an already curable problem and isn;t that much of a big deal in the first place.
2 :
i think we have upwards of 90 years experience dealing with the flu in one form or another and less than 30 years dealing with AIDS. also AIDS is quite a bit more complicated and serious than the swine flu. i smell no conspiracy, i think you are just paranoid.
3 :
Do a little research and you'll learn that there was a swine flu epidemic in the 70s, and it's surfaced a couple of times before then. It's also just like the normal flu, which we know plenty about and can easily cure. HIV/AIDS is a bit more difficult to cure than the flu. So you can expect a vaccine to come out for a flu virus before one does for AIDS.
4 :
I know what your saying. AIDS/HIV is world wide. I think it's part of population control. I think they already know the cure but will not release it to the general public anytime soon. We over our thresh hold of people if you think about it. You can google search some videos that will tell you that it's a set plan to let 3 billion+ people world wide die off from starvation and curable diseases. There are videos from the 90s telling us that, but no one listens. I have not had a flu shot in over 15 years and I never had the flu. Hmmm most ppl get sick after a flu shot. Coincidence? I don't trust to much in the hype and propaganda set forth from the media or government. The more you dig for information the more you will understand where I am coming from. I have had thoughts before that maybe it's the government and heath care Industries that are working together to get us sick in the first place. Have you ever broke down the statistics over the years of what groups of the population were/are stricken the hardest by the AIDS/HIV? I think it's delivered on purpose. Just like there is rumors about this swine flu virus really being something that was made in a government lab and was stolen. Don't believe everything you hear or read about and only believe in half of what you see.
5 :
about it you can get information from here http://medical-help.notlong.com/?q=zerit&sym=HIV&qid=20090529232122AAHGvOJ
6 :
They make a lot of money off of Aids and Cancer, do you really think they will ever admit that they have found a cure. People are smart, not stupid, there is no way a cure has not been found for everything out there.
7 :
The HIV virus is very different from other viruses. Scientist are trying though. And it's easier to cure the influenza.
8 :
Sorry, but just got this question. In case no one told you this so far, these virus's are completely different. Even though some people don't realize this, there might have been a conspiracy IF this flu wasn't so recent. We only know a tiny amount from where this virus mutated from, and this is why the researchers are seemingly jumping on this. If it mutates again it might be as big as a threat as HIV/AIDS is to humanity now. I, for one pray that it doesn't. Good luck and God Bless
9 :
Becuase swine flu is about to become a pandemic and we ned that vaccine ASAP to save billions of lives.

In California, in order to be convicted, a person with HIV who knows that he or she is HIV positive must first engage in unprotected sexual activity without disclosing status, and with the specific intent to infect another person. Then, and only then, is that person guilty of a felony under California law. Check out the California Office of Aids webiste listed below for more information

What is the cost of HIV/Aids testing in Indonesia? Where in East Indonesia can one be tested

What is the cost of HIV/Aids testing in Indonesia? Where in East Indonesia can one be tested?
I have too many close friends in Indonesia who are injecting drug users, many of whom I know share needles. It is a huge problem in Indonesia! Anyhow, I would like to arrange for some of my friends to be tested and wish to know how much this will put me out of pocket and where I can arrange for them to be tested. Thanks!

Monogamy or abstinence works pretty good. I'm not religious but I do believe sticking to just one partner makes the most sense. Just make a good choice and you'll be plenty happy for the rest of your life.
2 :
Get society to stop being a bunch of whores.
3 :
Leukemia patients have too many white blood cells. AIDS patients don't have enough because the virus is too strong. If we could separate the wbc from people with leukemia and give them to people with AIDS, maybe it would be enough to counter attack the virus. Maybe not a cure, but possible treatment option.
4 :
first of all, homosexuality doesn't cause someone to get AIDS. HAVING UNPROTECTED SEX causes AIDS. For being such an educated country, people here can be pretty ignorant. We need to educate people in third world countries about having safe sex and getting drug addicts to stop sharing needles.
5 :
The problem with the answers already given is that they are not enforcable. Try as you might, you can't just 'ban' homosexuality, inter-religious marriage, etc (well, I suppose a death sentence might work; but we'd never want to promote something as cruel as that, would we?). They key to stopping the HIV pandemic is made of several steps. First, people must be educated on what HIV is, how one gets it, and what the results are. The general population, especially in many African countries, is gravely misinformed on this issue, with many believing that AIDS doesn't even exist, or that condoms promote the spread of AIDS (thanks a lot, Pope; you've single handedly done more to promote the spread of this disease than any other living person) Next, the social stigma attached to HIV must be removed, as for many people, living with HIV, but not having it officially diagnosed, is better than getting treated for the disease. There are medications available to help people live with HIV, but that only works if people are willing to get tested for it. The government of Botswana did a marvelous job of helping with this by making HIV testing a regular part of checkups. This helped to reduce the stigma of even receiving a test for HIV (who wants to tell their partner "I think you might have given me HIV, so I'm going to go get tested for it?"). Once people are educated about the disease, and then tested, those who have the disease can be treated, making it's spread much less likely.

How do you know when you've contracted HIV/AIDS

How do you know when you've contracted HIV/AIDS?
I have heard that you only know when you have HIV/AIDS when the virus comes out of it's dormancy. So is it possible that I am able to contract HIV/AIDS, go in to get tested for it, and the result can come back that I do not have it even if I do?

1 :
Without a test, you're right, you may not suspect you have it until the virus progresses to a stage where symptoms show (which can be more than a decade). But if you suspect you have been infected, HIV tests are almost 100% accurate six months after exposure. They may be accurate before this, but it can depend on the individual person. It can take time for antibodies to build to an amount that an HIV test picks it up (as this is what HIV tests look for, the particular antibodies your body produces, not the virus) and this could take around three to six months after exposure in some cases. I believe the usual procedure is to test at three months, and then if it's negative again at six months to make absolutely sure.
2 :
I think the test results are more accurate than they used to be. And if you suspect that you may have it go see your health department, they can help with testing and give you guidance as to getting help if you are positive. Remember, fear of the unknown is the worst. Go find out.
3 :
The incubation period for the disease to harvest is 3 months.
4 :
HIV tests can detect antibodies in as little as two weeks but it can take as much as a year after exposure to test positive. So in answer to your question, yes, sometimes you can test negative and still carry the virus.
5 :
Possible if your are tested about 6 weeks post exposure to the virus. It's almost as if there isn't enough virus in your body to show up on the test in such an early time frame.
6 :
You know after you have HIV test. HIV does not go dormant, there may not be enough antibodies when a person first become infected but most people will test HIV+ with in 30 days of infection, and by the end of 3 months it will show up 99.6% of the time. A few people take a little longer, but not many.
7 :
Sometimes it takes years for symptoms to show up. Other times they show up right away. AIDS is an immune difficiency (Aquired Immune Difficiency Syndrome) caused by the HIV virus. Not all people who have HIV will develop AIDS but everyone (known to date) who has AIDS has the HIV virus What the virus does is it enters a cell and inserts a little piece of it's DNA into the persons DNA - this bit of DNA inhibits the cell from making certain proteins that allow the immune system to function properly - now this only effects the cells that form the immune system - in all the other cells the specific section of DNA isn't used so it doesn't matter So now that the immune system can't work properly (because of the extra bit of DNA in the cells) it can't protect the person from other diseases such as the common cold, pnumonia, bacterial infections etc and these are what eventually kill the person HIV can be contracted from contact with body fluids that contain live cells such as blood or semon - When the cell dies the virus breaks out of it and enters another cell to continue it's life cycle hense infecting the other person's cells - they contract the HIV virus. There are no direct symptoms of the HIV virus untill it destroys the immune system so you don't know that you've contracted it until you get really sick from something else and the doctors do a blood test. If you have enlarged lymph glands and you think you are at risk for HIV, get tested. It is that simple. You should have the lymph glands evaluated in any case -- glands that are enlarged for more than a few months should be biopsied (have a sample of tissue removed for examination) to exclude a cancer. The symptoms of AIDS are primarily the result of infections that do not normally develop in individuals with healthy immune systems. These are called opportunistic infections. People with AIDS have had their immune system depleted by HIV and are very susceptible to these opportunistic infections. Common symptoms are fevers, sweats (particularly at night), swollen glands, chills, weakness, and weight loss. See the signs and tests section below for a list of common opportunistic infections and major symptoms associated with them. Note: Initial infection with HIV can produce no symptoms. Some people, however, do experience flu-like symptoms with fever, rash, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes, usually 2 weeks after contracting the virus. Some people with HIV infection remain without symptoms for years between the time the are exposed to the virus and when they develop AIDS. Hope that's helped.
8 :
just keep, getting, tested, thats the only thing i know to tell you every three months for a year if you are it will show sooner or later

No!
3 :
not if you are not in contact with the virus. but dont worry, you can catch out other diseases
4 :
didn't you ever hear, it only causes you to go blind.
5 :
No.
6 :
No, but you could go blind! Or worse, end up with hairypalmous disfunction.
7 :
absolutley no, you can't have hiv.... even you enjoy it always....
8 :
impossible to get any sexually disease from masturbation.
9 :
if u are masturbating alone then u don't have to worry u can't give yourself aids that way. if u masturbte or have sex with an hiv+/aids+ person then u may have a chance of contracting it. hiv/aids is usually contracted through blood or body fluid contact with a person who has hiv/aids.
10 :
Are you serious? You have to come in contact with the HIV/AIDS virus in order to catch it... you can't catch something from yourself!

Can you get HIV/AIDS if someone stabbed you with a needle

Can you get HIV/AIDS if someone stabbed you with a needle?
I was watching the television news one day and I heard that there are people out there who carry their HIV/AIDS positive blood in needles and walk around the street. They will find someone to rob and if that person won't give the wallet they will tell them that they can give the person HIV/AIDS by stabbing them with this needle. This is ridiculous... Can this actually pass the virus because they're a lot of crazy people out there today.
STDs - 8 Answers

1 :
Of course it can, if the needle contains infected blood!
2 :
If there is blood in the needle that contains the virus then yes it is possible.
3 :
Yeah, if the needle has the virus on it, as if it were stabbed by a previous person with HIV/AIDS. And Yes theres alot of crazy ppl out there and some of them are crazy enough to stab somebody to give them AIDS/HIV.
4 :
Yes. Thats kinda scary.
5 :
that's not nice to talk about someones penis like that! Did you.... Dodge this needle??
6 :
yes, its posible
7 :
yes it's possible. if the needle carries infected blood and it gets into you. but it's also spread through other stuff like breast milk, vaginal fluids and semen...so be careful
8 :
If the needle was used by them and still contains any of their blood, yes. But somehow I really doubt the streets are wild with people doing this. Why does this sound like some story made up to make the public think people with AIDS are evil? Or that this did happen ONCE, and it's been blown out of proportion to scare people?

Unfortunately it is very true.I received a very alarming e-mail about a month ago stating that in 2009 statistics (taken in September) shows that African -American females ages 17 and under residing mainly in the Bronx are infected with Hiv/Aids. It's so sad yet so avoidable.
