Are the statistics on HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B even accurate

Are the statistics on HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B even accurate?
Because apparently, if you contract HIV, you may not feel any symptoms for up to 10 years (or at least minor ones that won't make you think you need to take a HIV test). And yet, you'll still be a carrier and be passing it on and on. The same with Hepatitis B. So, currently there are 40,000,000 people in the world infected. But is this even an accurate estimation if there are potentially so many patients out there who are unaware they carry it?

No, it's impossible for the statistics to be 100% accurate. Plus, take into consideration all the people who know they have AIDs and don't or can't report it. And the numbers are growing daily, so any report is bound to be behind.
