There are two classes of drugs that work by slightly different mechanisms to destroy HIV & usually a variety or combination of drugs are given. Zidovudine & Lamivudine (Epivar ) are RTIs ( RT Inhibitors) Nelfinavir & Amprenavir are protease inhibitors use of the two types together is commonly referred to as HAART (highly active antiretroviral therapy) These are used to treat AIDS...there may be more recent meds in use though so someone else may be able to provide more info.
