announced approval of a new three-drug combination pill that could mean a single pill a day for many HIV/AIDS patients. Regulators heralded the drug as the first chance for patients to take their medication in such a simple form. HIV/AIDS patients now must take several pills daily, often in complicated combinations. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/540761

How can I get strangers to help people with HIV/AIDS

How can I get strangers to help people with HIV/AIDS?
I am a graduate student with no money, but I want to make a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS. I'm participating in AIDS LifeCycle 6 (http://aidslifecycle.org/4895) to raise money for HIV treatment and prevention. I need to raise $5,000 in six months! Does anyone reading this want to donate? Will you donate? How can I get strangers to donate? EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS! AIDS LifeCycle ( http://www.aidslifecycle.org/4895 ) is a 545-mile bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money for and awareness about HIV/AIDS. 1,000,000 people in the United States are living with HIV, and money raised by this event will: * Provide medicine to those who can't afford it * Counsel HIV+ people about how to get the care they need * Educate people about HIV prevention Will you help me? http://aidslifecycle.org/4895 Do you have suggestions on how I can raise the $5,000 I need to participate?

Hey God Bless ya! Hmm it is definitely hard to advertise this. You will probably need some money to make some money. I would recommend a banner on websites, for example find out how you can purchase a banner on a yahoo website and then you could advertise what you are trying to do. Good luck on your journey.

What is your opinion regarding the current situation regarding the world pandemic of HIV/AIDS

What is your opinion regarding the current situation regarding the world pandemic of HIV/AIDS?
I welcome answers in the affirmative as well as negative. I am doing a project and therefore wish the same. I would highly appreciate answers from those unfortunate to have contracted the illness.

There needs to be more education particular in third world countries about the possible consequences of unsafe sex - HIV/AIDS being one of them. In developed countries, try to stop needle sharing between drug users to bring down the spread of HIV/AIDS.
2 :
I also hav d same type of opinion like u. M a medical student. Smetimes i think that i can find permanent cure 4 AIDS. Its possible only if i knw A-Z of pathogenesis, virulence, treatment of AIDS as per new researches..... I feel i cud! bt....... There r millions of big scientists working on this dreadful disease 4 finding its cure... What m i? Prevention is better than cure. Even Maintainance is better than repair. Treatment: There r many drugs which deactivate reverse transcriptase enzyme responsible 4 multiplication of virus. ZIDOVUDINE, LAMIVUDINE, STAVUDINE r sme of d drugs.. To eradicate dis disease we shud introduce 1 chapter in may b in 10th standard in schools. That chapter shud contain prevention of AIDS n all types of precautions regarding it. We shud introduce sme more chapters like course of vaccinations in a child etc which r general health topics, whch every1 of us shud know.... I feel 4 us education is more important than finding a cure 4 it, which already is being done by Scientists....... Distribution of groups causing AIDS: 1. Homosexual or bisexual men: 50% 2. Intravenous drug abusers: 25% 3. Hemophiliacs: ~ 0.5% 4. Recipients of blood and blood components: ~ 1% 5. Hetrosexual contacts: ~ 10% 6. In approx. 6% of cases, the risk factors cannot be determined. HIV had infected 60 million people worldwide n nearly 20 million adults n children hav died of d disease... T.H A N K Y O U !!!...........

Can you get HIV/AIDS from a person regardless of the fact that they have it or not

Can you get HIV/AIDS from a person regardless of the fact that they have it or not?
Can you get HIV/AIDS from an exchange of body fluids from a person regardless of the fact that they are infected or not?
STDs - 6 Answers

1 :
You cannot get a disease from someone who doesn't have it.
2 :
if they are not infected, you cannot get infected from them. The AIDS virus is passed from one infected person to another person, thus infecting them. If they don't have it, you cannot get it from them.
3 :
ABSOLUTELY!!! Like anything else, you can carry the virus/bacteria and never be affected by it, but you can pass it on to someone else who is more likely to have a weaker immune system. Simplictically breaking it down, take flu shots. Certain strains of flu shots are given, but they may not protect you from the prevalent flu that is going around.
4 :
no not at all if someone is not infected with it no matter how unsafe you play or whatever u cant catch such viruses at all..
5 :
The only way to catch HIV is from an infected person. NO infection, NO virus, simple, but there are other STD's out there that you can catch other than HIV when playing around. If on the other hand if the person IS infected, almost any sexual activity posses a risk. Plus remember it can take months for a persons HIV test to show positive, so if they recently had sex with an infected person, contracted HIV, but still tested negative, they could still pass on the virus. Hence why it is better to know a person for a while before sleeping with them. The only safe sex is no sex, and the next best thing is when there is no "pink parts" touching. Your mouth, vagina, penis, or anus are all pink parts. This will also protect you from many other STDs

lol, no

What would be your reaction to receiving health care from a worker with HIV/AIDS

What would be your reaction to receiving health care from a worker with HIV/AIDS?
Especially if it involves contact with your body fluids and the use of sharp objects? Would you object or consider it discriminatory if you did not allow the person to do their work? And do you think the person should quit healthcare and work where they are not in contact with human fluids?
Infectious Diseases - 11 Answers

1 :
They cannot be health care workers in the US if infected. Its illegal.
2 :
HOLY S*** THEY HAVE ADIS!!! AHHH!! naw im just kidding I'd be sad.. "teardrop"
3 :
I would not allow it.
4 :
no thank-you
5 :
In my opinion, if that worker knows they have it, then they should extra precautions to protect patients, but it would discriminate the worker if they have used extra precaution as best as possible, and it wasn't their fault it has happened...but if they didn't use precaution even though they knew they had it, then i would complain...but I wouldn't object as long as i know they are using precaution to protect me!
6 :
I would not let anyone who has HIV/ AIDS do anything to me. If I can't get a better health care beside the one that got the hiv/aids then i will go to another health care place. the HIV/AIDS is no no for me.
7 :
Id say........... bitch, give it up, i like dick, yous nothin but a prick, starring vagina sold out bunk trick, like i give a shit, i aint seen no eastcider lit, you played drizze like a used car salesman, punk, i aint seen your lowrider get drunk, I dont know what you heard about me but the backstabbing nigga hep c, and you the motherfuckin chink dmv, and crack knows your lyin rib, suck that lung next time you die on crib.
8 :
Each health care worker should take all precautions to avoid any contamination on both sides. After all, what would it help to avoid or take extra precautions when you know someone is infected? How many people are there NOT KNOWING that they are infected? Refusing an AIDS positive person's care would be discriminatory and not very constructive.
9 :
Wow, you really get a sense of how un-enlightened and uneducated people are on this site. For starters; No, it is not illegal....There are many Doctors, Dentists, Nurses and other health care professionals in the United States infected with HIV who are still practicing. HIV is a difficult disease to get!!!! Has anyone here ever heard of "Universal Precautions"? They are the basic guidelines in any health care setting that protect the health care worker from the patient AND the patient from the health care worker. Although there are reports of a health care workers (Dentist in the US) infecting patients, they are extremely rare. Chances are if you get HIV from a health care worker, its because you had unsafe sex with them. Do some research people, and don't be so ignorant! Take Care, and Stay Safe!
10 :
I'm not as concerned with healcare workers as I am with those who prepare my food in restaurants. First, I don't know of any heal care professionals that don't use rubber gloves when taking care of a patient. It really shouldn't be a concern unless they offer you a blood transfusion. JMHO
11 :
its called discrimanation.....you never know who might have the virus it isn't like they tell you bc they have the right to privacy..as long as they aren't trying to infect me i don't have a problem with them in any work environment bc they have to make a living to those meds are high

When will Christians stop saying that HIV/AIDS is a gay disease

When will Christians stop saying that HIV/AIDS is a gay disease?
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control,Blacks age 13 to 24 account for 63% of all new AIDS cases in america. This doesn't include the fact that africa has the highest number of people with HIV/AIDS. If God isn't responsible for bad things, and you say that bad things are the result of our sinning, why are innocent babies in Africa being born with HIV, What did they do to sin? Why are the majority of HIV/AIDS cases in America from black people? What if you were infected by a dirty needle in a hospital? (it happens)

People still say that "gay disease" crap? I thought we dropped that nonsense decades ago.
2 :
stop picking on christians you bully
3 :
Got a link to your stats You're way to negative for this time of morning
4 :
it's a black disease too gays and blacks spreaders of aids make sure to wash your hands after being near them
5 :
if it's a gay disease why is it that lesbians are less likely to get it than straights?
6 :
I live in South Africa - highest HIV infection incidence in the world. It is not a gay disease as the overwhelming number of sufferers were infected via heterosexual encounters. Woman are the principal victims. Xians bigots lie all the time to justify their bigotry. If it was a gay disease then why is the Pope going around Africa trying to stop people protecting themselves with condoms? He has a lot to answer for.
7 :
They stop saying that the moment they have to deal with it in their own surroundings.
8 :
Aids or HIV is a disease That is brought on by gays, & lesbians. & also by using unclean needles for illegal drugs. But there is also aids that an innocent person can get by a blood transfussion
9 :
It's origin, is what Christians are talking about, not how it's spread. The Bible talks about how a homosexual encounters will result in disease upon their life. What stat that you are conveniently leaving out, or should I say the CDC will never reveal (I have a friend who works for the CDC) is that there are thousand of documented cases when two gay partners have NEVER had ANY homosexual encounters before in their lives prior to their current relationship, and yet they still get Aides. I have inside info, I know the truth....
10 :
It is not a 'gay' disease but a human disease spread through promiscuity and intravenous drug use. Innocent children are being born HIV positive as a result of their parents licentiousness and drug use. Most are not spread through hospitals as needles are no longer reused and blood and organs are tested for it. It is all of our problem.
11 :
As a mental health professional with 20+ years experience, including specifically addressing HIV / AIDS patients, I never will stop saying that. You may have percentages that prove that other populations are included in the diseased population, but that doesn't discount the reality of homosexuality being a prime force in the development of HIV/AIDS. God, as in the living Jesus our Christ, Bless you always.
12 :
They will stop when it stops being a gay disease which will be FOREVER. They will take it to HELL with them. I don't judge them. God has already judged them, as an ABOMINATION to Him. All of the answers are in the Holy Bible. Wouldn't it be quicker to get the TRUTH from the Bible than to ask people that don't know the TRUTH?
13 :
Most christians stopped saying that as soon as they discovered that HIV/AIDS was not limited to the gay community. Some christians never believed that as Jesus clearly taught that illness is not a punishment from God. (John 9:3) A hand full will always believe it as it suits their preconceived homophobic beliefs.
14 :
to be honest with you it did come from eating monkeys overseas. It has been mostly transmitted by humans having sex, man with man, and woman with woman. It is most common now with the gay people. However some people have gotten this from other sources. Aids is one of the things that is on humans. Many other things just as bad is on humans as well. The curse of death is the curse of death.
15 :
well, to tell you the truth, we Christians don't all believe that. it is (sorry) really the Catholics. the pope even said that condoms won't stop STD/AIDS. Like, I am a non-denominational christian, and I believe that their are bad things in the world because life is a real test, and without bad things, heaven wouldn't seem all that great compared to Earth. but, we do understand that homosexuals can contract the disease, but people are born with it, people contract it other ways, etc. so, all in all, evryone has their own opinion, Christian, Catholic, Athiest, and otherwise.
16 :
Is it just me or did Eric just imply that HIV just forms in gay people as a punishment from god and isn't an STD...RELIGIOUS RETARDS. this is why i despise christians sometimes. most gays and blacks don't have HIV, it's less that 10% for each group and there are social factors that lead to people having a higher incidence of disease, you don't get hiv just because you're black or you're gay
17 :
I read that HIV/AIDS is spreading fastest among heterosexual single people and heterosexual married couples. People still have the mindset that HIV/AIDS is mainly a problem for homosexuals. When heterosexuals have affairs they don't think about getting HIV/AIDS and they don't get tested. If people don't know they have HIV and have multiple affairs many people could get infected and never know it. I feel very sorry for the babies that are born with HIV/AIDS. They did nothing wrong and it's not their fault. I have seen people take blood and not want to wear gloves. I would think they'd be afraid of getting a disease. Some people don't have common sense.
18 :
im cristian and i doont think that hiv is an gay thingo, u get aids from having sex with like people hu have had like 100000000 sex partners gay and str8 so yah
19 :
Your right, anal cancer is a Gay Disease.
20 :
Never. It doesn't suit their (the Christians) moral purpose and anti-homosexual stance. Unfortunately AIDS started in Africa and was allowed to get out of control by governments that did nothing to stop it. Also education campaigns were non-existent for the most part in a country where many people are illiterate and uneducated. This was in rapid contrast to countries like Australia that had huge scary public education campaigns (The Grim Reaper ad), education in schools and promotion of the use and in many cases free distribution of condoms especially to sex workers. This very quickly contained the growth of HIV/AIDS in Australia in the 80's.
21 :
The demographic you are referring to will sadly probably not stop saying that HIV/AIDS is a gay disease until it happens to them...to someone they know and love who is NOT gay. My family has always been very open-minded and accepting of homosexuality in our community and nation, but when AIDS was first discovered, it was almost universally known as a gay disease...it was a disease that only gay men seemed to be contracting, and thus, that was how it was described in the media and even in scientific discussions. Not long after hearing about the disease, my father went into respiratory distress and was rushed to the hospital to discover he had contacted HIV. The most likely cause? A blood transfusion he'd had five years before. There are PLENTY of straight people who have HIV. AIDS may have started out "a gay man's disease," but it is hardly that anymore. Question: Breast cancer is almost always only found in women...is breast cancer a curse on women? Women can hardly get testicular cancer...I mean, really, think about it. Is testicular cancer a curse on men? And if you can answer yes to both questions, would you honestly approach a family member with one of these horrible ailments and tell them their suffering is a direct consequence of their sins and misdoings? I can't even believe some of homophobic, close-minded, bigoted, ignorant, uninformed, and simply STUPID responses to this question. It's absolutely appalling that in this day and age people can be so irrational.
22 :
Maybe when non-Christians stop making that connection: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ah13un3149XsYzaq6XnPe0DwDH1G;_ylv=3?qid=20090723193501AARrb4C
