why does south africa have a big problem with HIV/AIDS?
im writing a paper about south africa for my politics class and i chose the subject AIDS/HIV in Africa, but i need to know why does south africa have such a big number of infected people. is it related to the government. please need help

Because they are not well educated on safe-sex practices. Also, Africa is the leading country in rape cases reported each year.

People there in South Africa have worse sanitoryhabits and people do in North America moreover people there have often have ucontrolled sex meaning that they do not use condoms that is a major cause of AIDS

I am from South Africa, and the reason why HIV/AIDS is such an epidemic is because of overpopulation, causing the poor who have no access to education or even contraception to not know that they are spreading the disease to their wife/husband and then to there kids if they get pregnant. Also with the crime rate sky high. Drug sharing causing HIV to spread and all the crimes of rape.

Lack of education about HIV transmission and protection is a major problem. Many people in Africa who have HIV believe that if they have sex with a virgin, they will be cured. This belief results in a very high rate of rape of young people, and spread of HIV.

A lot of it is related to the government not doing enough to educate its people and also not providing adequate access to condoms. There has also been an element of the government in the country not wanting to reveal to the rest of the world the extent of the problem it was experiencing therefore meaning that it has been swept under the carpet getting worse. Until the SA government decides to be open with the world and it's own people about the extent of the problem it will be hard pushed to come up with a robust enough strategy to deal with the problem.

all of the above, and let's not forget that the church condemns condom use, and the USA does not financially support any overseas health programs that support and encourage condom use. They believe, along with the pope that abstinance is the only answer. shame isn't it.
