Usually three drugs are used. Sometimes they may all be in the one pill. If less are used resistance develops

It really depends. Some people do well one just one, some need 5, and for some, there are no medications that help. For most of the traditional strains of HIV, the current medications will help. But there are newer drug-resistant strains that are beginning to appear. For these people, there is sometimes no medication that works. Fortunately these strains are still rare.

It depends on what combination your doctor wants you on. I, for example, take 2 a day.
